For the past couple of days I have been having problems with attempted redirects to www.ilitili.com. My AV software (Kaspersky) recognises the threat and blocks the redirect but it is annoying and I'd like to get rid of what is causing it in case it is causing damage behind the scenes.

The Kaspersky alert looks like this.......

I have gone through your Read Me First procedure and have attached the necessary logs. Nothing untoward seemed to show up while running these procedures.

    Can you help please?

Does this only happen in Firefox?

Tim - it is only Firefox I use. Is it worth trying IE as a test?

We are going to be uninstalling your old version of FireFox and installing the new version. So do the below to save bookmarks:
    • Run FireFox and click Bookmarks.
    • Then select Organize Bootmarks.
    • Then on the next window click File and then select Export. Save the bookmarks.html file to your Desktop for later use in importing.
Now download and save the installer for the current version of FireFox but DO NOT install it yet. Get it here: Mozilla Firefox 15.0.1 Final

You will need exit FireFox now and use Internet Explorer to continue with the below until we reinstall FireFox.

Start by uninstalling FireFox and then reboot. Do not skip the reboot.
After reboot, delete the below folders:
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    C:\documents and settings\UserAccount\Application Data\Mozilla

where UserAccount is the actual user account name being used.

Now reinstall FireFox from the file previously downloaded.
Import your bookmarks file. (similar process to exporting).

Tim - I have got as far as uninstalling Firefox and rebooting but I cannot get into the C:\documents and settings folder (see screenshot below). I do have admin rights on the PC and I also tried to access the folder after booting into Safe Mode but no luck. Do I need to change some kind of security setting?

From an Admin acct., right click the folder and choose properties. Then give yourself permission.

Sorry, but I'm not having much luck here. Changed user settings for administrators to full control but I still get the "Access is denied" error when I try to open the folder. Screenshots below of securty settings and my user profile. :(

    Let's try it this way:

We are going to be uninstalling your old version of FireFox and installing the new version. Except we will be using Revo Uninstaller.
Get it here: Mozilla FireFox

You will need exit FireFox now and use Internet Explorer to continue with the below until we reinstall FireFox.

Start by uninstalling FireFox and then reboot. Do not skip the reboot.
After reboot, delete the below folders:
    • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    • C:\users\UserAccount\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox
where UserAccount is the actual user account name being used.

Now reinstall FireFox from the file previously downloaded.
Import your bookmarks file. (similar process to exporting).

    Any better?

First of all, that link to Revo doesn't work, although do I need it as I already have FF uninstalled.

What I have done so far (this was actually done the other day after your first instruction):
    1. Have saved bookmarks
    2. Downloaded FF installer from Mozilla
    3. Uninstalled FF and rebooted

Its at this point I got stuck and could not delete the FF folder in C:\program files as I get that access error.

Just to keep things up to date, I have gone ahead and re-installed Firefox and the problem appears to have gone.

    Thanks for your help.
