island life.

two things happening at the mo. a big brush fire has closed the only road, so one half of the island is cut off from the other half. in addition Mauna Loa is 'preparing' (whatever that means) to erupt!! i am in no danger from either. the fire is on open land and although they have evacuated 50 homes (god knows where to!) there is a massive supply of water to fight it with, lol. the scenic helicopters, and the army always join in on these things, so there is a constant stream of copters filling giant buckets from the sea, and dumping them on the fire. it reminds me of that story about the diver that got scooped up and dumped in a forest fire somewhere. (no doubt one of you will find the appropriate story.) perfectly feasible once you watch it. as for the volcano, that will be interesting if and when it goes. last time the army was out with bulldozers literally trying to push the lava flow in the direction they wanted. in the end they blasted a path for it. aloha from natures extravaganza. Island Life:

Today, on my Island, there was a lot of rain... then sunshine, then both at once.

And there was waay too much politics homework given to certain students at a school.


Hm... the UK just doesnt sound as interesting does it? Lol, my friend who used to live on Hawii never mentions anything like that, he just makes us jealous with stories and pictures of idyllic beaches and stuff *yawn* like that

 

well it is idyllic most of the time. the 'big island' is the only one in the chain with active volcanoes, so depends on which one he was on. i cant imagine someone from england living here and then going back to blighty!! he must miss it terribly.

 

Pity you can't re-route the rain from those 3 Florida hurricanes. Not the wind, just some of the rain to put the fire out. Bazza

yeh, that would be fun. lol. its been raging all night, but the longer it goes the more copters get involved. they look like some sort of weird ballet going on in the sky. you hafta admire the skill involved.
