Going well at the moment. Was in 2 bands last year, on top of working a full time job, just about went crazy. All 3 kids are getting big and keeping us plenty busy. My youngest son broke his back last year playing football and we are finally getting him in for surgery next month. So much fun trying to keep an 11year old boy from running around and being active, it's almost impossible hehe.

Now down to one band and working full time, still in IT. Hopefully going to be able to retire in 10 years and then do some things I'd like to do, instead of doing things that I have to do if that makes sense.

Hope you are all doing well!

    Cheers!

Hey there Jack, David, Bluesie and Ken!! Old familar faces and friends!

Jack, we're still here in Chicago, so anytime you're passing through, look us up. We'd love to meet up with you. Unfortunately, our last Cornerstone Festival was in 2012. Attendance was down, gas prices were up and it just seemed like time to let it go. Heartbreaking in a lot of ways. It was always like a family reunion for me. We've got a lot of friends who we would only meet up with once a year at the fest. We connected with several of them over Facebook and keep in touch there.

Without the festival, we weren't able to justify keeping the property in Bushnell. We were starting a large project close to home - renovating our large building across the street from home into a coffee shop, theater, church building, offices, school, recording studio, and lots of other things I can't recall off the top of my head - and we needed the finances to get that off the ground. We said goodbye to our precious Cornerstone Farm this past September. My heart still hurts. So many memories there. Making it a little easier to let go, we had a terrible flood the previous spring. Our sweet little cabin had 4 feet of water in the front room. There was a lot destroyed. The deck that Eric had built a year earlier floated off its foundation and settled on top of the swingset. We were able to salvage more that we ever expected (I'm still finding things in bins that have flood mud on them). The flood reached just under the counters in the kitchen and somehow after the waters receded, we had electricity, gas, and hot water, and were able to clean it up enough to "camp" inside (although we stayed in the treehouse the first few times we went down). The gentleman who bought the property was kind enough to let us have time to pack up and get our stuff out, but he's got it locked down tight now and (understandably) isn't interested in having people drive through. I "visit" occasionally on Google Maps. The satellite photos are pre-flood and our little piece of heaven looks great. I took screen shots because I know it won't be that way forever and I'm sure the new owner has bulldozed our place by now. His nephew liked the tree house, so that will live on )

But on to more pleasant things! The new coffee shop just opened up and is a lovely place. If anyone is in Chicago, stop by Everybody's Coffee - 935 W. Wilson Ave. They make a great vanilla latte. And if you know Eric and I, have one of the folks behind the counter call us so we can run over and say hi!

And in other news, Kolya got her acceptance letter to one of her 2 first-choice high schools! There's still a chance of her getting into the other first-choice school, so her final decision isn't made, but there's some relief knowing she's in a great program either way.

I've prattled on long enough. SO nice to see you folks. I'll try to make it a habit to pop in a bit more.

I joined a long time ago and learned a lot from this place. I don't get by here so much any more, as I don't get involved in the nitty gritty of computers so much anymore.

It's still my first choice when I'm in trouble though.

    Heyas everybody!

I still tell everyone that this forum is the best place to have questions answered about pc problems and still use it myself from time to time, although not as often as i should for sure.

Dont think i qualify as an "old timer" but ive definitely been around a while and remember most of your names that posted in this thread. :-D

Was a bit of a shock since i hadnt been here a while to see that the games forum is gone, unless im just blind :p

Anyway, saw this post and had to jump in and say im still around and definitely have missed y'all.

of course now i have a real job and arent just sitting on my butt anymore ;)

Some forum areas have gone blaterbeard as they where not used a lot, so we condensed a lot to make it more simplified.

Officially an old timer although the "quite one" of the group. Having come on 01/07/02 and posting about twice in all that time. Dave knows me from a couple places, and maybe a few others still here. It has been fun watching the site grow (and grow) over the years. Guess I might be about the oldest Lurker in here. You guys do keep me entertianed.

Tech advice?! That's funny Dave, considering my neighbor walked by and looked at my tinkering with the Corsair D900 case I'm starting a build in and wanted to know how someone so old knew as much (or anything) as I do about computers. He smartly stayed back out of reach where I couldn't cuff him one. Smartass. :boxing

Be it known Barry's email has begun to bounce now. No answer when I call, no voicemail, and now this. He's been a friend since I first came to the net,
and I find this very ominous to say the least. I know what he's been dealing with somewhat over these last few years, and I can only hope that he's out of touch due to needing an extended break from lifes troubles. But his dropping out makes me think way to much of Augie (for those who knew him also) and I am seriously concerned for my friend.

:( I hope, too, that Barry is just taking a break and getting well. I know he was going through some very hard times.

I've also noticed that BillMCC66 has not been around for a long time now. I hope he is also okay.

    I really hope we are.

I've often considered asking my husband to come here and post if somehing happens to me, but I keep holding off since it just seems too morbid a request. I'm not exactly old or in bad health. At the same time... I don't know. I miss augie. Phantom and Bill as well. :(

I made a list of all the places I frequent, along with my user names and passwords. Hopefully if something happens to me, someone will use that information to not only close all my accounts but to let my internet friends know.

I miss a bunch of people, and it's sad for me how quickly time passes until one day you find yourself thinking, "Has it really been six months since I talked to him/her? How the heck did that happen?" Especially online, when you don't necessarily see someone every day. I do hope Barry and Bill are just taking a break. I still miss G.T., and am eternally grateful I got to hang out with him for a weekend before he left us.

On that morbid note, it's almost 3:30am and I'm going to bed. :tired

Hey everyone! 10 Years ago I was a 16yo kid helping people out with malware removal and ram installation. Today I have a Bachelors in IT, and at the end of the year I'll have my Masters in IT Project Management and Leadership.

I have to thank everyone here for teaching me what is now the base for my education and career. I learned a lot from this place, and I don't think i'd be where I am now without my experiences here. :major

Fantastic and congrats on your Bachelors in IT... and thanks for the comments on learning from Majorgeeks forum as that is what we strive for always, so good to see a former get to a job position they wanted. :major:)

BillMCC66 is around not too well of late but he is doing ok.... just not up to forums and posting at present.

Barry aka Phantom... dunno and its weird of him to go missing and I have tried my sources to contact him unsuccessfully.

Busy. Taking my life back, it's a lot of work. :)

    1. 3 kids - all special needs. Juggling appointments, renewals, transitions, services... blah. Daughter is beginning High School and Son Kindergarten in the Fall. Youngest son is being re-evaluated for services and might get back into pre-K which he previous disqualified for by being too smart.

    2. Health is a mess. Taking control. Weight gain and back damage led to a catch 22 health death spiral. On 6/23 I undergo bariatric surgery and with the weight loss take back my physical health so I can regain my life.
    a. Get my license, no longer will i be dependent on others
    b. Get a new job, regain financial stability
    c. Remove my ex from my household, as I will no longer need his financial assistance, nor his toxic influence on my well being. (Currently we are roommates, and I hope my independence will negate that necessity)

    3. No social life to speak of, but you can find me everywhere online.

I just haven't really been on MG as much. I don't really know any of the new people, and I don't have much of value to add to the conversations. Making fun of people you don't know doesn't really work out as well as you'd think, so... hehe.

    How are you?

Didn't get to spend any time with my "boyfriend" today (Not enough money to go pick him up) but it was a good day anyway. Breakfast in bed, a nice picnic and walk at the park on a perfect day, the police only got involved once... good day.

ps. Had to call 911, my daughter vanished at the State Park. Decided it would be cute to walk the 2 mile trail and not tell anyone, took 45 minutes to find her. But she's safe! Just extremely grounded. 13 is a rotten age.

All right guys, thought we were going to try to keep this on the first couple of pages. Who dropped the ball on this one anyway :).

Just a quick update, since I started this thread I've been moved to a different position in the company I am working for. I am now a Security Analyst (yeah scary right??) and I work power weekends. That means I work Sat through Monday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and I also work EVERY holiday (switch off with my Monday if the holiday does not fall on Monday). I get Tue through Thur off which I think is pretty sweet even if my lovely bride does not. The price I pay for having a job now days. It's a long way off of being an Union Ironworker/geek which I did for 22 years.

Give us an update those of you who normally LURK.

    Life is good!
