    Hi everyone,

I Have a printing problem. I tried searching the forum, but I don’t know the right search terms to find any posts of my particular problem. Or even if this is the place for this problem.

I’ve created a design in Photoshop in several different sizes to be transferred onto wood boards of corresponding sizes. I’m having them printed at staples on engineering paper which is done on their wide format printer. The problem is that they print much larger than the size I created them. I also tried to print the smaller one myself and it does the same thing.

So, for example you’ll see in the photo I’ve attached that the design has a red border that indicates the edges of the wood that the design will be transferred to. In this case the image is 12 x 6, so if the paper is larger than that, I can see where to trim the paper to match the size of the wood. I tried printing the jpg and the png at home on 8.5 x 14 and it printed right out to the edges of the paper rather than keeping to the original size. The same thing happened at Staples on 11 x 17 paper. It blew up the design to fit. Now just to clarify, if I print the document directly from Photoshop it’s fine, but not when printing a jpg or a png, and printing from Photoshop at Staples is not possible anyway, so I really need to figure this out.

What I’m wondering is does anyone know what I need to do to make sure the designs print out to their specific sizes?

    Thank you for your help

This is what I did to print a small pocket calendar, (2" by 3.4"). I saved the image as a jpg. I opened IrfanView. I went to print and selected Custom. Use scrap paper and play with the dimensions you want.

Thanks, Plodr. I'll see if Staples is able to do that.

You mentioned that "The problem is that they print much larger than the size I created them."

Well if you're paying Staples to print these for you, they should be able to make the necessary adjustments, even if they have to make some practice runs on plain white paper.
