To the entire Major Geeks family:

It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I am informing you that we have lost the heart and soul of Major Geeks. Tim Tibbetts, aka Major Attitude, has passed away after a brave fight against cancer.

Tim put the MAJOR in GEEKS and this forum will not be the same without him. He was a dynamic presence on here and will be profoundly missed, but I know I speak for everyone in that he will never be forgotten and his legacy will live on in this forum. When Tim, Jim and Phillipp created Major Geeks 20+ years ago, I would be surprise if they knew what an impact it would make on the internet and how many people they would help. I know I am not alone in that I found MGs when I was looking for help. That was in 2007 and here I still am.

After you read this, please take a moment to raise a glass (either real or proverbial) to Tim...
and do not hesitate to leave your words or thoughts in this thread.

Thank you Laura and it is indeed very sad news. Having lost my mother just before Christmas, the sadness is still raw for me so I know what the Tibbetts family will be going through.
Sending my best wishes of love and happiness to Tim's family and friends and know that he will live on in our memories.

Laura, awesome words and you know how I felt about Tim as a friend and techy.

I followed him from the old Tweakfiles site at the startof this one, banter and jokes he was all full of. Chats over cars and the sort of setup of Pedal To the Metal website. Tim was such a large character and so sorely missed!

Thanks so much for posting this as I know many of us would find it hard to do

So sorry to hear this. Tim helped my parents and me many times in the past with incredible patience. I currently participate in a couple BOINC data crunching activities regarding cancer markers--one in children, one in adults. I know that won't bring him back to his loved ones, but I hope it will give them some consolation that future people might not have to suffer the cruel death or loss as he and they did.

If anyone is still grieving him, I highly recommend Theresa Caputo's book "Good Grief." Even if you don't believe in mediums, the grief activities she has at the end of each chapter and the experiences she and those she knows that are shared in the book are incredibly helpful. (I started listening to the book during my dad's [Alzheimer's type dementia] last month of life and kept listening for several days after his funeral [held a month after his death].)

I know everyone grieves differently because everyone is different in many ways, but I hope someone finds something helpful in this reply.

As always, I'm praying for our world leaders to find the wisdom for peace and the necessary support of their constituents. I'm, also praying for peace, love, and strength to find the citizens of the world--especially for the realization that we all come from a place of hurt and all need to be faced with more compassion than enmity, most especially those who have "invisible illnesses" who seek low-cost medical care and receive nothing but unfounded judgment.

I haven't been able to be on as much as I was in the years past, however it is very sad to hear. Everyone here at MG was here for me when other people weren't and I always felt a deep appreciation for the owners and leadership. Thanks in huge part to MG fostering my love for computers I was able to follow my dreams of working with computers not just as a full-time job but as a fulfilling career and I will always have Tim, Jim and Phillipp to thank for that.

Pouring out a cold one tonight...

Sad to learn of the passing of any contributor to this site, especially anyone who does it out of the goodness of their hearts! Although I didn't personally know him, and can only guess that he helped me at one time or another, his willingness to help those of us (who flounder around when it comes to figuring out what is going on in our systems) can best be identified as a blessing! I've been away for a long time. I just heard about Tim's passing; I didn't know he was sick. I’m so deeply sorry. For a long time, MG was my family and the people here have left an indelible impact on my life. I still have pictures of Tim cheating at Skee-Ball in Kahunaville the very first time we all met up. Posing under the "You can Stuff it" sign. I hope wherever you all are, you know I love you deeply and I think of you often. 10 points for the Strong Bad pour out. That was epic.

Yeah...sad news. I hope you are doing well. I bet it was fun to meet up. I'm not sure that's a thing anymore with forums, sadly. Hell, most of them don't even exist anymore. This one is hanging in there, but it's nothing like it used to be where everyone talked about life. Ah well...it's still a great tech place and there are still a bunch of great people here.

Laura: I noticed back in April 2022 that Tim had posted one of his last posts and it was pricisely to me. I was surfing the site months later and wondered why he had stopped. No one was monitoring MGs like he did nor were questions being answered. I knew something was wrong but never knew until now that he was sick. He was an amazing person and a real geek. He loved what he did. RIP

Had a thought after posting my post, you fine folks here at MG change up the MG logo for stuff like Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving.

In Tim's memory, why not put a black band on the major's helmet with either the name Tim or his initials? Similar to wearing a black armband?

  42. mecanicogolf

    mecanicogolf Private E-2

No. I will not accept the fact that someone/anyone would want to make money off of Tim's death. That's morbid and not acceptable. I knew him for years and was of great help to me throughout. This is not good. Unbelievable. Sorry.

  43. kennie

    kennie Private First Class

Okay so you have clearly taken EVERYTHING that I have said completely out of context.

Am I trying to make money off Tim's death? NOPE

I was simply stating that in his memory I would wear the MajorGeeks hoodie that I bought. So I thought I would show the picture of it.

The only thing slightly morbid and unacceptable is your misunderstanding of my comment, thinking that I was trying to pull some sort of cash grab.

I just found out Tim passed away a year ago, I was shocked and saddened. I was watching a recent MG video on Youtube about "Aeroshake" and read about his passing in the comments. My condolences to his family, friends and his MG family.

I found Major Geeks back in 2002 or 2003 and been a fan ever since. I never knew Tim personally but I considered him a friend. We emailed each other over the years, I was the one always asking him technical questions or advice.

You were a very kind man Tim, you spent a lot of time helping everyone. MG will not be the same without you. RIP my friend.
