Are any of the local-ish people doing anything special for the eclipse? We're going to some camp in the middle of nothing with my bff's family to see the thing.

For our other friends, they're calling it the “Great American Eclipse” because it’s the first total solar eclipse to hit the lower 48 states since August 2017. I don't think it was total last time either. The next total solar eclipse visible from the contiguous United States will occur on August 23, 2044.

The eclipse coincides with the new moon, which occurs on April 8 at 2:21 p.m. EDT (1821 GMT). During totality, the sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk.

Where I am is in the Path of Totality so it's a big deal and schools are getting half days/closing, businesses are taking a couple hours off, so everyone can watch it. Niagara Falls declared a pre-emptive state of emergency to get resources to help hand the expected traffic flow, even.

But specifically, where I am is so close to the very edge of totality that they moved the lines last night, and little places a couple of miles south of me are no longer expected to see totality.

Will be driving down South for work. Got friends that are going camping and such to see it.

Dang Wenchie, that is dark... :D

I am loving the conspiracy theories with the eclipse. Don't get me wrong, I love a good conspiracy theory. I have been in a haunted place, not sure if Bigfoot exists, but some of this eclipse stuff is just crazy!

If I were all light and rainbows, people would think I was dying. Evil never dies.

I suppose I should have kept the 2017 eclipse glasses I scored. At the moment...no plans here. It's going to be occurring around 3:30 in my area with partly cloudy weather. Should be pretty cool. As I mentioned, we did have glasses last time and it was fun for about 1 minute, so I didn't bother. I think it'll be more interesting looking around at everything else. Or maybe I'll get the library instructions to make my own cereal box viewer.

In 1986 me and a group of friends drove for 7 hours to a place with clear sky in the middle of nowhere in our off road vehicles to see Halley's Comet. We took telescopes and binoculars and cameras.....after all the hype it would have been good if it was worth seeing and even with a pretty good telescope, it still was underwhelming o_O:confused:
Lucky we lit a nice fire and sat around sipping on tinnies to make the trip worthwhile
