Hello Everyone, yes having used Tweaking for a decade or two I somehow deleted images and files off a laptop.

Does anyone know if they can be reclaimed or brought back from the dead?

Naturally, it's only important things that are missing.

Just wondering while I'm not the only one this has happened to.

    Thanks for taking a look

Greetings and welcome to the Major Geeks Malware Forum.

I am not sure this is malware related or the correct forum to deal with the issue but let's see what we can do.

Running Tweaking can mean a lot of different things. Exactly what did you run and if relevant what settings did you apply?

    Please try this.

    ===================================================

    Recuva Free by CCleaner

    --------------------

Note: Ideally recovered files should be saved to an external drive, i.e. external hard drive or USB with ample space. They can be saved onto the computer but the chances of recovery may be reduced.

    • Download Recuva Free and save it to your Desktop
    • If you are using an external drive or USB insert it into the computer
    • Right click on the rcsetup icon and select Run as administrator
    • Click Customize and adjust any setting you would like to change
    • Click Install
    • Uncheck View release notes if you would like then click Run Recuva
    • Click Next
    • Select the category you would like to search or if more than one category select All Files
    • Click Next twice
    • Click Start
    • Once completed click Options... in the upper right hand section of the window
    • Click the General tab, select List view, then OK
    • Click on Last Modified until the most recent date is listed first
    • Left click on an entry and review the Preview screen to determine if that is a file you would like to recover. If so, place a check mark on the item
    • Review the State column to see the liklihood of the file being recovered
    • Once your review is completed and you have placed a check mark in files you would like to recover click Recover...
    • In the Browse For Folder pop up window select either your external drive (preferable) or, absent that, Documents (less chance of successful recovery)
    • Select Make New Folder
    • Type Recovered Pictures then click OK
    • Once the Operation completed window appears click OK then close the Recuva window
    • Check the location where you saved the recovered file(s) and see if they are accessible
    ===================================================

Things I would like to see in your next reply. Please be sure to copy and paste any requested log information unless you are asked to attach it.
    • Files recovered?

Hello Team, Yes I am with you, it's a bit of a busy time for me. :)
The original reason I used Tweaking.com was to do maintenance after the recent MS update (s).
Also, I stopped using PC Matic and for the life of me I could not get it to "just uninstall itself" Also something held the door open for Macafee to get in, Avast to be there and Yahoo decided to make itself the browser default.

So I took care of that and in the process, the files in the directory and images were wiped.

I'll be trying Rcuva a bit later today I hope.

Thank you all for the expedient answers and reply's

Thank you for your reply and explanation.

Let's see what Recuva can find.

    Hello Team,
So it does seem as though the many files on the computer are somewhere they can't be found.
The recycle bin is empty, any backups are not yielding the info we're looking for either.

I'm wondering if MS could help with recovery options.

    Sorry to hear that.

I am not sure if Microsoft can help.

Another option is to use different 3rd party software. Though I am not endorsing it or have ever used it, programs like Stellar Photo Recovery allow you to download their software for free, run the program to see what it can recover, then give you the option to pay for their software and actually recover the files if you wish. I am sure there are other 3rd party programs as well.
