    Hi guys,

Whats a WAN Miniport (network moniort), i assume its something to do with wireless? ( i don't have a wireless connection by the way). I just noticed in device manager it has an ! mark beside it and the following message is displayed when i click 'properties'

"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

Just interested to know if this is something i need to attend to..

    thanks
    martin

by the way i don't think i noticed this the last time i was in device manager a few weeks ago - its a new development as far as i know

Im going to take a stab and say it is your IEEE 1394 Firewire port on your computer, if it has one. They can be used for video as well as networking. If you dont have one then it will be a similar network device port or a wireless card built in.

Do you happen to run AOL? I know they use this as a gobetween for their software - or at least they used to...

Did some googling on WAN Miniport and came up with some links you can look at. It seems to be a software adaptor rather than hardware. Looks like there have been some problems with it in connection with AOL but a lot of the references also have these ports being used for tunnelling protocols for VPN communications.

Last link has a removal procedure. I am not saying to remove it, just that it is in link.

    Hope the info helps.:)

Thanks for the advice guys - no I don't run AOL. I decided after reading the articles that LBMEST posted that it was safe to carry out the removal instructions in his last link. That worked fine. Plus the fact I had never seen this yellow ! there before, so for whatever reasons it must have been a relatively new development.

I thought that it might solve another prob that I have - posted in the Software section - 'Frontpage 2003 pic probs' - basically Frontpage keeps crashing once you click 'save' - I noticed after a Google that some people encounter this problem if there is mapped network drives available that are not working - then this can happen. I thought maybe this vpn was maybe acting as some connection to another network and maybe that was causing FrontPage to crash on save, but alas, it made no difference.
Thanks for taking the time guys and LBMEST thanks for taking the time
