I might have a look at that, I loved the story like I said, I'm not a huge western fan because they are all pretty generic after you've seen the main ones but this story just have more ... I dunno... Heart?... than most.
No mention of Ray being a preist or a 4th brother in the second so that interests me to see how that all went down.... wait, did you say "Older" version of Ray?... Now I'm confused because Ray is the oldest of the 3 in the 2nd one and the other 2 are not fathers... Now I'm confused lol, still gonna check it out.

It's the 2 brothers arguing that makes me laugh while playing, lines like ...

"I bet you I have the most annoying brother in the whole wide world I tell you what" Thomas.

    "You can't hit shit" Ray
"Shit... ain't what I'm trying to hit" Thomas

Combine it with first class voice acting and it just really works.

  2. lego126

    lego126 DJ's Geeky Dad

Yeah, the second one is the past demons that Ray deals with. The second one is the reason that he became a priest to set up the first one. So basically, if going on a actual timeline, they made the games backwards. But if your are going to play the second one, you should def try to first. The second has much better gameplay, and some parts of the first one can be boring, but the second one it is basically why RAY is such a badass. ;)

  3. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

So the second one is essentially a prequel?

  4. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Wow, that's more confusing than the whole "It was all a dream" thing from Dallas :-D
I can't remember exactly what happened at the end of the second one so I will probably come back to this thread once I'm done and go "Ohhh I seee" :-D

  5. lego126

    lego126 DJ's Geeky Dad

Yeah, my wife says I'm confusing as well. ;)
And Mimsy you're right. The first one is old Ray, and the second one is young Ray. Like I said in previous post, don't expect the same overall game as the second one, but def. worth 8 hours of anyones day. :cool

COD4. I played MW2 for on PC for a while but without the mods and dedicated servers it sucks...There were lots of hackers too. Anyway, Live long COD4 :major

Currently, Fallout 3 has sucked my brain out :yum and won't let me quit until I beat it and finish all of the quests. My wife says it’s an addiction!

  8. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Fallout 3 is not an addiction, it's a privilege :-D

Have you got the add-on packs?.... lots of extra stuff to do, new weapons to kill with and new places to visit :-D

Oh, and if you've heard the radio guy talk about a "Real green tree" ..... he's not lying, it does exist.

  9. lego126

    lego126 DJ's Geeky Dad

Well said Ned. Fallout sucked me in for months as well. I have only got OP Anchorage, and The Pitt. I'll have to get the others. Hell, I'm still playing the game about 6-8 hrs. a week or so. Along with all the other games I'm playing. ;)

  10. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

I actually havn't played for a few weeks, my first time round I complete all but maybe 10-15 side quests and decided I wanted to start again with a more knowledgable play style, probably now have 20-25 hours into the second time around.
Got side tracked on a few other games, lately I have just felt like shooting stuff.

I played Arma 2 again the other night and am probably going to play it again tonight, still buggy and I'm not quite yet decided on how I feel about it, but it's good.
It does take some serious getting used to though, I mean the keyboard mapping, I have never seen a game that uses so many keys. But now I have my new keyboard and mouse I am able to really customize the key map the way I want it, played for 3 hours and have customized maybe 50% of the controls and still fiddling.

I still say Op Flashpoint is the better game though, reason? apart from the bugs and complicated controls... in 3 hours of play I only encountered 6 enemies, while it was fun.... after playing I had to load up Left For Dead just so I could satisfy my bloodlust :-D

One of my Favs, that I continue to play even after 2 years is F.E.A.R. 2. Man, there is nothing like turning the lights down low, and the volume way up, and being totally spooked out. It's just all around a spooky type game. :p

  12. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

I actually prefered FEAR, although gameplay in FEAR2 is better, I just felt the first one had a much bigger sense of dread.

I really liked Doom3 because of it's feeling of dread, it made you jump yeah but it was the quiet moments when you really felt that "something bad is gonna happen"
Then FEAR came along and just blew it out of the water, total freakout-fest.
I felt the second one was less of that and more action.
But I might have to play that again to recap lol

I'm playing Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, and the best game of all time: Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now

  14. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

To be honest, I felt that FEAR relied a little too much on frightening the player by startling them. Yes, the atmosphere was well done, but too much of what I remember was "GAH something jumped in front of me!" moments. I prefer a slowly building inescapable sense of dread from knowing that something is hunting me and I just can't get away from it... the atmosphere in Condemned or in Alone in the Dark.

Of course, this is just opinion. I might be wrong about FEAR, I just can't remember any of that being there.

  15. lego126

    lego126 DJ's Geeky Dad

For some reason I just can't get into AITD. I have tried numerous times to give it a shot. I didn't mind the one back in the mid' 90's. number 2 I think it was. But I was 15 yrs. younger and in 8th. grade back then. I may have to give em' another shot. As for Condemned, I didn't play. I played the second one though, and it was impressive. Have any of you all played Manhunt for the PSP? It was a very long game for a PSP. Had like 16 part or so.

  16. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

lol I felt the exact opposite, to my recollection there was only 1 part of FEAR right at the start where you get hit with a lump of wood, the rest was static fuzzes and ghostly figures etc, when I played Condemned it was more of the guys jumping out at you like Doom 3. Of course this is just my opinion lol

  17. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

And opinion is really all it comes down to in the end. As long we we both enjoy playing what we're playing, that's ultimately what matters, right? ;)

  18. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Yeah, but we are gamers, the whole "My fav game is better than yours" argument is as much a part of the lfestyle as the playing itself :-D

Speaking of the Condemned, I did enjoy it but found it very frustrating as far as getting lost and backtracking, going round in circles. That was the only reason I never finished it, kept getting lost lol.
There's few games that do that to me.
    Isn't there a sequel?

My boy just brought home Metro 2033, I've not looked at it yet but he says it's pretty freaky.

Actually spent today replaying Modern Warfare 2, after hours of fairly uneventful Arma 2 I felt the need to rack up some kills in some chaotic warfare :strong

Have you tried Saw: The Video Game?
Obviously it's pretty graphic but it's pretty atmoshpheric as well, some cool puzzles.

@Abz... I've been told it's pretty good, quite different from the first aparently, let us know how you get on with it. I also know Ubisoft were having some quite major issues with the whole online security thing, is it fixed?

  30. Mimsy

Mimsy Superior Imperial Queen of the MG Games Forum

Lord, I hope so. The DRM in AC2 requires you to maintain an online connection at all times in order to be able to play. I have a post about it in this thread somewhere.

It's not that the concept sucks, though it does. It's that it was very poorly implemented.

  31. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Yes I do believe I remember you posting about it, I think it's a stupid idea, they've spent more money on the DRM than they would lose to piracy. And to make a single player game require an internet connection is just lame.
There are other ways to avoid piracy, but this no doubt lost them many sales.

  32. Now I am playing.

    GTA IV again.
Alien Swarm (free game on steam and it's great!).
Abit of Battlefield Bad Company 2 but it is loosing it's charm due to all the bush hugging snipers in every game.

  33. lego126

Gotta' go with Mimsy on this one. Rogues prob are the strongest class with the best unbalanced perks. But, my personal fav. in a Cleric. Things are more complicated nowadays though, it's no longer, warrior, thief, mage, ranger...there are sub-classes, and epic classes like, Sword mage, arcane archer, divine mind, runepriest, blackguard, red wizard, etc.. etc.. each with there own advantages, and disadvantages. One of my personal favs, was a Monk shadowdancer, I used in neverwinter nights 2. She had a great hit/dam ratio, and more importantly had a really high DEX and was really hard to hit. After I read about Danica, and Cadderly, I knew then I had to have a Monk!! :cool She was always the most intriguing char to me in those books at least. :major
Another class that I don't think gets enough credit is an Eldritch Knight-Warlock. Ammon Jerro was a "badddd mot&^%^$**er!!!!!" (in the famous words of Samuel L. Jackson)

Don't know why but I've got an itch for some "post-apocalyptic"radiation exposure, and I'm starting to twitch. Anyone guess what time it is?

Oh and one more thing to abz1nthe. DO NOT CHEAT on the answers to the glyphs. The 20 glyphs and their perspective puzzles are one of the best aspects in the game. I could only solve 11 outta' 20 w/o looking up the answers. some of them are REALLLLY tough :-o It really was a good game, great story, can't wait for the next one.

Me too. ;) Wishing there was more. But I've went thru it, 7 times now. With numerous different builds and, each time I sit down to play, the time I play is less and less. Hell I haven't played in almost 3 days now, and even then it was only for like an hour.

D&D ended with second edition. There was no other D&D material printed after 2nd ed. These 3rd ed, 3.5, and 4th ed things that fool the unwitting into believing that they have any connection to Gary Gygax at all are really just WoW played with miniatures and a d20.

We moving off of video games? Then I'm playing in 2 Saga Edition Star Wars games, a Shadowrun 4th game, and prepping to run another SE SW game :-D

on the video game front, just hit the quitting point on Borderlands, the repetition is killing me, and I'm fixing to re-crank Dead Space and probably Fallout 1 or 2. Haven't played either in a minute.

I wondered how long you would stay hooked to Borderlands, I thought it was pretty awesome for the first while and like you I started thinking how it was just getting to be a slug out fest, go here, kill these guys, go back get new mission, go there kill those guys etc etc

Magical, I didn't realize there had been more ed. of Shadowrun printed- what do you think of the system now? I used to play in the early/mid 90s but haven't touched it since my group of buddies from then went our separate ways. It was great though and I'd considered introducing it to the folks I game with now, but I rarely see any of the books float through our local used bookstore. We just finished a run of the original d6 Star Wars game.

Nedlamar, speaking of the local used bookstore I picked up a used copy of ARMA yesterday. Gonna cross my fingers that the install goes ok- if not they have a decent exchange policy and I saw several copies of Operation Flashpoint also.

Scooby, I never got to play the older versions, so all I'm familiar with is the newest. Here's a link to their site, don't know if it'll help though http://www.shadowrun4.com/ Or you can mosey on over to galacticcampaigns and check out the game I'm in. Some of the folks there are familiar with it, they might could tell you.

Ned, I think what really killed the game for me was my character. I was playing a Brick and had so much fun on the first playthrough but 98% of my kills were with the action skill. When I hit p2 I had terrible proficiencies and even with a shield rating of 1300 and health at 1575 enemies would drop me before I could get to them, and even when I managed to get to them 3000 to 4000 damage a punch was practically nothing. I don't know it went from fun to stupidly unplayable between the levels of 30 and 45.

There is a used book store up here in knoxville called Mckays. And I been going in there since I was a teenager. Well, I've managed to pick up almost every D&D book you could think of. So I've read them all, I've just never had a group to play with. Maybe it's my regional location, or my unwillingness to talk to alot people. :zzz

I play the same way you people do, and think the same way you think about these kinds of games for sure.

and i agree with you on fable.

Ive owned Gothic 3 for a while now, never finished it but its a promising game for sure. Now that i have a better pc to handle it i should throw it in.

Should also add that im in a play by post game of 3.5 ed Dungeons and Dragons. Game time has been a few months i think but the game has been going on for...heck i think 5 years now. Works well for us thankfully as we all want to see the game through. We actually just hit lvl 13 this past week.

I also have Torchlight and Titan Quest, both decent games.

I just downloaded Nethack for my iphone, works pretty good, fun time waster and to reminisce about the old game.

Just completed Mass Effect 2......what a game. Definitely just amazing. So glad they gave it to me for that alpha test i was in, but i for sure would have bought it anyway.

I lost interest in Dragon Age rather quickly and have no idea why. I think i hadnt saved in a bit and got pwned by something so i just stopped playing. Ill have to throw it up again soon.

I wish i could just delete freakin WoW from my pc but every time i go to do it...i just cant. MY mind just goes back to all the fun people ive met over the 5+ years ive played it, and the nearly 60 gig it takes up on my pc, i keep thinking what a PITA it would be if i erased it then really wanted to play again. lol
