Win98se/7zip/virtual Clonedrive: Errors Accessing .img Files

Hi! I have a lot of programs I downloaded from WinWorldPC that I want to install on my Win98SE tower. The programs came as .7z archives containing .img files. Sometimes, they open properly in 7Zip. Sometimes, the application crashes, and I have to kill it. The last three times, Virtual CloneDrive mounted the file, but the name was garbage. I just want to copy the files off the image files. How can I do that without causing CloneDrive to try to mount it? I was successful on a Win11/64 laptop, but, for DOS programs, I have to mount the disk images from within the DOSBox-X emulator.
