    Hi

As pointed out in another thread from Mimsy a few weeks back http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=220012 jailbreaking is now legal in the US, it may not be for other countries as yet, so a bit of care is needed in the questions and answers in any question/thread.

But I would be tempted if you are to start any thread on this topic to add a disclaimer that jailbreaking will null and void your warranty with Apple if something goes wrong, plus it may also leave you open to some of the emerging malwares for smart phones, that are starting to circulate in rogue apps. Thus if a user decides to JB that its their own decision.

*while I have not gone into depth at all in pros and cons as well as how to restore the phone to gain warranty support, I do have an iPhone so know a fair bit about then. Just adding this as I know there is always the comments on what i may have missed etc etc

You sounds like a disclaimer on a radio advert. LOL Understood though and good points all around.

I know..... at times some folk say I sound like that guy with the deep voice that does the movie voice overs in adverts ;)

Just think with the potential problems that a novice user may have when reading a thread on this type of hack that they may get themselves into trouble, so well worth just adding some text to say "do be careful"

I tend to add similar to any post of mine when registry hacks are posted as if the instructions are not followed as posted (and you know like me that some do try to shorten the steps.. hence why you see many dont read the Malware Read ME fully but post that they have) then problems can occur.

A comment on jailbreaking in Europe. Note that there has been no legal/court ruling either way yet, the blog primarily quotes arguments made by a legal firm in the UK. While I think the arguments are solid and largely agree with them, I don't think it would be wise to use them as a basis for arguing that you are allowed to jailbreak iphones in the UK. At least not yet.

Tread carefully until this moves forward, in other words. I'm watching this issue, and I'd be happy to keep posting links and information as I find it. :)

    Great link Mimsy... cheers

I dont think this topic is going to drop now that US law states that jailbreaking is legal, other countries will at some point follow suit, as I dont think that Apple no matter how big and powerful they are can stop it, the thing for me is in jailbreaking it was the area of geeks that know what they are doing...

So in opening this up with easy to use apps to jailbreak to the masses are we not just opening smart phones to the wonderful world of malware! BBC Tech News tested this out HERE

Ouch. I think I just heard the MG Malware fighters die a little inside... LOL

And that link is actually a bit scary, and leads to the topic of a different discussion entirely: If malware becomes rampant on phone networks, will the benefits of using a smartphone be worth the risk? Will there be AV apps for phones? (That would be cool. "Avira AntiVir, the Android Edition")

Yeah scary is the word, and for Windows Mobile antivirus apps are available now HERE (folks write of WinMo but they are thinking ahead) as well as the likes of Kaspersky know the value of mobile data security, problem being these are aimed at the high end of the mobile network phones and will not cover all.

As we move to a mobile world more and more, we are not looking at the security risks of such devices, we are very naive in this respect, thinking that these devices are safe, similar to thinking Firefox will save you from malware infections.

Just got word that Apple, since they are a bunch of crybabies over the whole "It's not illegal to jailbreak an iPhone" from the courts, has now introduced software on their iPhone OS 4 that makes it harder to jailbreak.

Anyone confirm this yet? Anyone with a jailbroke iPhone 4?
