A new thread was posted recently regarding Win7 Virus, dr. moriaty was assisting removal of this virus and I too would like to follow those instructions.
Will someone (dr. moriaty ?) help me remove this virus too?

    thanks

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this aother user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:

Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Hi TimW and thanks for helping.
Ive attempted the 'Read and Run me' notes.
Managed to install and run SuperAntiSpyware: 14 trojans detected.
12 DNS Changers and 2 Fake Alerts.
I had to install the SAS from portable version so didnt get a log.
Tried to download MWB no go.
Tried to download Combo Fix and no go either,
keep getting redirected to other sites (guess the DNS changer trojan wasnt cleaned)
Looking to the previous post regarding the actual 'Win7 Virus' infection, which is how this started off, I need to run different tools to get the anti-virus programs to work.
    What should I do now?
    O/S is Windows 7.

Im not trying to jump the queue, just wanted to add more info. to go with this log. the logs were uploaded via infected pc, but am now writing message via laptop.
Managed to download and run CCleaner.
Reading thru a previous post regarding the Win7 virus, the helper gave a list of which tools to install and how to do this by downloading and copying to cd first via another pc.
This is how I installed SuperASpyware, in normal mode.
MalWBytes wouldnt work, (in either normal or safe Mode)
but MGTools did work in safemode and this is how I managed to get
    the log.
Am now receiving messages saying system needs Microsoft. NET Framework version 2, available to download ....
but clicking the microsoft link results in blue screen.
System also can't shut down due to background programs running such as
    explorer.
Guess these two final problems are as a result of the virus?

    Hope someone will help me.

Download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract+ avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * -Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!

Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe (v2.4.0.0) from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.

    • Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
    • If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it. To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123tdk.com).
    • Click the Start Scan button.
    • Do not use the computer during the scan
    • If the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.
    • If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.
    • Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.
    • A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_27.07.2010_14.17.05_log.txt) will be created and saved to the root directory ( usually Local Disk C ).
    • Attach this log to your next message

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).Make sure that you watch for the license agreement for TrendMicro HijackThis and click on the Accept button TWICE to accept ( yes twice ).

    Then attach the below logs:
    * TDSSKiller log
    * C:\Avenger.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Not sure if the Avenger worked.
I installed it to the pc via cd, copied the script in and executed, but there's no log saved anywhere. Should I try again or carry on with remaining instructions?

TDSSKiller found the MBR infection, let's see if it did in fact fix it. But first, try manually removing these files, use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\Users\Rosie\AppData\Local\ypw.exe
    C:\Users\Rosie\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Templates\728sw542r556r75p701mhj84c4o8ky70
    C:\ProgramData\728sw542r556r75p701mhj84c4o8ky70

Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop

    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
      • Done! Press ENTER to exit...

    • Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
      • Found non-standard or infected MBR.
      • Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:

    • Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
    • MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.
    • Attach this log to your next message.

    * MBRCheck log

will reboot to check system and see if downloaded AVG will now install.

Did you fix what MBAM found? The log indicates you took no action. If you did fix it, I need a new MGLogs. zip. Please re-run MBAM first, fix what it finds, if anything, and then run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

Sorry I saved log prior to the fix - but the infections were removed and I checked the registry manually too.
Ran MBAM again, log attached, as is MGlogs.zip
I also checked the hijackthis scan, and couldnt see anything nasty in there...
system seems to be running ok...

Much better, but still not all the way out of the woods yet.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * -Do not change any check box options!!

    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Now run Ccleaner to clean out only temp files and nothing else!

It didn't remove them. Let's try doing this:

Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Services
    omdr
    mlcglxrh
    kbkojlz

    :Files
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\kbkojlz.sys
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mlcglxrh.sys
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\omdr.sys
    C:\Program Files (x86)\rkryvsb.txt
    C:\Program Files (x86)\tlkfdper.txt
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\vywa.txt
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers\kbkojlz.sys
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers\mlcglxrh.sys
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers\omdr.sys

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [ResetHosts]
    [createrestorepoint]
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2782/4174320048_f01c448b32_o.png button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.

Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach this log file to your next message.

NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and attach that document back here in your next post.

    * OTM Log
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Yes, you will get a blank page, but you should also get a download box. Try downloading to a different computer and transfer via thumb or cd.

Can you use windows explorer to find and manually remove those files?

Looks good. Your logs are clean. Tell me what malware issues you are still having, if any.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0
