laptop behaving strangely

Hello, Please can you help me. My laptop is behaving erratically with lots of 'not respondings' and problems with Incredimail. I have gone through all the Incredimail problems with their support and totally reinstalled it, but no better. It sometimes runs slow and each letter typed takes about 30 seconds to appear and the dictionary will not respond as it should. I do not think it is an Incredimail problem, as the laptop in general is erratic with a lot of 'not respondings'. It is an Acer Aspire 5542G and has only recently returned from having a new hard drive installed [for the second time], under warranty.
I have worked through 'read and run me first' and wondered if you would mind looking at the logs for me please?
I installed MGTools to C drive and followed instructions. It opens onto a black command prompt page and appears to run, [a small box came up showing 'refreshing system information] but then just closes down with no notice regarding MGlogs.zip file. My McAfee security was turned off during installation and running and so was the UAC. I noticed on the black screen a lot of things were not recognised!
I followed onto the windows 7 debugging instructions, but the file created in C does not open to reveal other files. If I left OR right click it just goes to "run" the programme.
I have attached the other logs but do not know how to send you my system information. Please let me know if you need any other information.
    Thanks, Jan

Does a C:\MGlogs.zip exist? If not then try this:

Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open a command prompt window. Enter the below commands at the command prompt each followed by the enter key. The bold black are commands. The purple is merely informational.

    • cd \MGtools <-- this changes to the MGtools folder and the prompt should change to C:\MGtools>
    • nwktst<-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
    • GetRunKey <-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
    • ShowNew <-- this will try to run all another scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
    • analyse <-- this attempts to run HijackThis. Be sure to click the Accept button twice in the license agreement popup or it will just sit there and wait.
Now look for the C:\MGlogs.zip file and attach it no matter what happened while doing the above.

    Thanks, there was no C:\MGlogs.zip

following instructions these are messages I got:

nwktst is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
same message again for GetRunKey ShowNew and analyse.

I searched for C:\MGlogs.zip but it was not found.

There was no 'purple' text, so I hope I use3d the correct commands. I keyed them in as shown above, with no stars etc.

    Thanks, Jan

Hi, if my last set of instructions did not work please try the below.

    Download OTL to your desktop.

    • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    • Vista and Windows 7 users Right-click OTL and choose Run as Administrator)
    • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
    • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
    • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

Attach both of these logs into your next reply.

Thanks, really appreciate your help. Both logs attached. During the scan it 'stopped responding' twice but started up again.

I have only attached the txt file as the other says

    OTL.Txt:
Your file of 445.6 KB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 375.0 KB for this filetype.

How can I send it to you?

Zip it up or break in into two text files.

I want you to run TDSSKiller so refer to the below for how to do so.

    TDSSkiller - How to run

Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop
    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
      • Done! Press ENTER to exit...
    • Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
      • Found non-standard or infected MBR.
      • Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:
    • Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
    • MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.
    • Attach this log to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Run this and attach the results.

    Using ESET's Online Scanner

Hello, Thanks very much for taking the time to check things for me.
It's hard to put a finger on what is wrong with the laptop, it just seems wrong somehow. Lots of 'not respondings' mainly in Windows Explorer, but in other programmes too.
When I am waiting for something to open, the little blue wheel flickers off and on as if losing the link somehow, and sometimes takes what seems like a very long time. I don't remember this happening in the past.
Incredimail is still behaving erratically, but now that I am sure it is not a virus type problem with the machine, I will go back to them to try to solve those issues again.
Once again thanks very much for your help.
Please tell me if I need to do anything or uninstall any programmes now.

Personally I would temporarily uninstall Incredimail (A thorough uninstallation not just a standard) and then see if it makes a difference. Interested in trying? I can guide you through.

Hi, if I did that, would I lose all the data, contacts etc? Would I be able to reinstall more or less straight away? Jan

Yes this could be quite time consuming. It was just a suggestion though. :) But worth considering if nothing else changes.
