Using Firefox 6.0.2 on a Vista OS
I just went through all the READ ME FIRST and now I can only find one of
the necessary logs. Ugh. (I'm in the habit of running CCleaner regularly, so maybe that deleted them? I didn't think it would.) Anyway, I do recall that SAS and MBAM didn't find any threats.

I had trouble running ComboFix because I neglected to turn off all of the shields in Avast - duh. (Sorry, I am under-the-weather.) I hope I didn't do any damage there.

I was unable to run Root Repeal because I didn't have a program to unzip it.

Should I start all over from the beginning?

Can you tell anything from my hijack this log?

    Thank you.

The logs for MBAM and SAS can be found here. Please attach them even though you say they found nothing.

Then get avast disabled and run it please. :)

The C:\MGlogs.zip should be there if you ran MGTools. Please attach it.

Also I will have you run TDSSKiller and MBRCheck afterwards.

Thank you for responding. I looked in AppData and the log file folders are empty. (I "really did" run the scans and they "really aren't" there --not trying to take a shortcut as I know that isn't smart.)

When I realized why Combofix was asking to work inside the Sandbox, I did turn off all the shields, but then I couldn't get Combofix to run.

Let me know if I should start all over again.

I want you to run TDSSKiller so refer to the below for how to do so.

    TDSSkiller - How to run

Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop
    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
      • Done! Press ENTER to exit...
    • Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
      • Found non-standard or infected MBR.
      • Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:
    • Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
    • MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.
    • Attach this log to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

I am not seeing any malware.

Try renaming it to yg6F45r.com and try again to run it, if normal mode is not helping use safe mode.

Now go to this MGTools and download the new version of MGtools.exe. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run the new C:\MGTools.exe and attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip

Thank you. ComboFix said Avast shields still running even after I disabled each shield; Avast seemed to be hung up (couldn't start or stop anything) so I uninstalled it and ran the ComboFix. Attached the log from my desktop.
(Let me know when I can reinstall Avast.)

For the MGTools suggestion, I got the following error:

    Error 404!

    /chaslang/files/MGtools.exe)*
    File Not Found!

Damn. Can you use another browser and see if it will let you grab it? Let me know? Or try safe mode with networking... or posibly download it using another PC?

Go to this MGTools and download the new version of MGtools.exe. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run the new C:\MGTools.exe and attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip

Describe to me how things are running for you again please.

Hello K,, So glad you are here... I did a horrible thing and tried to download Avast from MG. When it wouldn't complete the download, I used another PC to download to and installed Avast via disk. After a bit I noticed internet hanging more and my PC shut down. I tried to START a few times and it would click back off. Well, I now have it at "Advanced Boot Options" and want your opinion of what to do: try to Repair, try Safe Mode, etc.? (Yes, I feel stupid.):-o

Do you still have problems? If so, answer this. Do you have your Vista boot CD?

Things are running smoother for the most part. (If I recall correctly, this Acer didn't come with a Vista boot CD.)

Question 1: When running speedtest.net the Download works just fine, but the Upload stalls. Does this mean anything to you?

Question 2: Under my Firewall Inbound Rules, Internet Explorer and Java Platform SE binary are both blocked on Private profile. Should they be allowed?

Question 3: Is it a good idea to use this new version of Firefox (6.02) on Vista? I was running an old version (3.?) before and things worked better.

    Thank you so very much!

    Good.
Something to ask about in the Networking forum I'm afraid.

I don't think they should be blocked, no. I presume IE works OK? If not then this is something you should ask about in the software forum. :)
It's always wiser to keep up to date with browsers, so yes, stick with the new version.

    Most welcome!

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required (If we renamed it please rename it back to Combofix.exe.
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
