    Ok,
I got the wifes bosses laptop here, with the report that OpenCloud Security has been bugging him for $$, as well he said there was an email in his inbox from himself with Russian writing... Told him to shut down, and send it home.
I have read and Run the READ & Run thread with only minimal results...
AVG was the AV running, and I believe now has been compromised as I am wholly unable to uninstall. Tried 2 AVG removers (linked from here as well as AVG) and no joy. Tried manually ripping it out, but still ComboFix reports it installed.
When I try to install (after running different RKill's) in either normal or Safe Mode I can sometimes run an app 1 time, then get permission errors (anything from The sysadmin has set policies, to you may not have the appripriate permissions...)
Can't run HijackThis, MalwareBytes, Stinger, procexp but I did get a good run out of MGTools (logs attached).
Not sure where to go from here, but I sure do need someones kind assistance!
    Thanks in advance fellow geeks!

Also wanted to add some more info that I learned...
I found that a process svchost.exe was running, and clicking up memory, as well as opening network connections and using up quite a large chunk of internet bandwidth. Some of the connections were to what I think were malware/virus spreading pages as one looked like google but wasn't, and another was some tech support site. I used netstat -ano | find "ESTAB" to determine what process and what site the connection was to. I don't have a sniffer installed, so I don't know what kind of payload (if any) there was, but I know from task manager networking tab it was using a good hunk-o-bandwidth.

One other observation you will see in the logs, is there is a process Image name 2864435686:422462549.exe running I am unable to kill no matter what I try. I did find a file in c:\windows named 2864435686 with no extension created today, but deleting it did no good... :cry

I also tried using perfect uninstaller to get avg uninstalled still to no avail. I DO however have SASCore.exe running, so I guess SuperAntiSpyware is running at least at some level...

I have been looking around the forum and wondering, is there any pay option for dedicated support? If so, lemme know please! You have my email. I would love to get this machine off my desk and go back to my day job! ;)

Again, thanks for all you do here, this site has saved my bacon more than once!

    Dude, you ROCK!!!!!

It worked great, and after a bunch of reboots, I seem to be mostly clean!
I have re-installed MalwareBytes (found 4 more infections) , as well as AVG Internet Security (found Housecall in Temp IE files), and everything SEEMS to be working well except Internet Explorer (cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item).
I suppose you will want some more logs? :major
Let me know what you need, as everything seems to be working now except IE...

Again, you guys are awesome! I just might have to go buy some SWAG to show my support!

Do not re-install AVG until we are certain you are clean. Please uninstall it again.

Yes, please attach the following logs.
    These include:
    • log from ComboFix (You don't have to rerun this, just attach c:\ComboFix.txt)
    • log from MBAM (if it will run now)
    • log from SAS (if it will run now)
    • log from RootRepeal (if it will run now)
http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/6835/baticon.gif Now run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat by double-clicking it (Vista and Win7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
Then attach C:\MGlogs.zip to your next message. (How to attach items to your post)
    Notes:
    • This will automatically update all the logs inside MGlogs.zip
    • Make sure you click Accept on the License Agreement from Trend Micro HiJackThis - v2.0.4 twice if prompted.

Have you run the removal tool since you reinstalled it again? If you haven't yet, please do so now. Then proceed with the following:

http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/6741/addremovexp.gif From Add/Remove Programs (via Control Panel), please uninstall the below:

It should have finished by now. I'm just kind of reluctant to tell you to force shutdown / restart. You have one of the newer infections which is fairly difficult to remove. I do not want it to damage your OS more than what has already been done.

Hopefully it will have finished and prepared a log report by the morning.

Your logs are clean now as well. :)

The following page may help with your decision: Top Freeware Picks

What type of software are you referring to?

There is not an option for that. If you would like to help out by purchasing some Major Geeks "gear", see the following: Support Majorgeeks: Majorgeeks Geek Wear. Hats, T-Shirts, Hoodies

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis if it present
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

My thanks to you for your help with this compete pain in the REAR!

After looking around, I decided to use AVG Internet Security that will not only give him AV but firewall, email, and link security.

I will have to get some gear for sure!!!

    One last question...
While working on this laptop in my "spare" time, I have a server at my "day job" that shows signs of some sort of infection that has me concerned...

First, and most obvious is no logon prompt, just a black screen, but it's on the network.
Second Terminal Services isn't starting, Com+ Event System won't start, and all the desktop icons became ".LNK" files...

This looked strangely similar to the issues seen from Zero Access, could this be a variant? it's got full on McAfee Enterprise with HIPS and it's Server 2008 Enterprise...

Any thoughts? Do you think this needs to be reported to our security office, or just some other odd thing Microsoft hasn't figured out how to help me fix yet? (I have a trouble called into them already)..

    Again, thanks in advance!!!

    You're welcome.

Does not sound like Zero Access to me. Sounds like a problem with Windows, which may have been caused by some other type of malware being present. You probably should have Security department take a look at it.

    Hey there!
Well, I suggested he upgrade to the paid version of AVG which apparently prompted him to uninstall and now it won't install AVG back.

I was able to get Avast up and installed, and Super Anti Spyware, as well as Malware bytes, all clean scans.

Are there more logs you might need to find the issue, or should I recommend upgrading to Windows 7 and reinstall?

    Thanks again for your help!:major

It does not sound like you are having malware issues. I would re-run the AVG removal tool if you plan on sticking with Avast is all. Remember, you do not want to have more than one Anti-Virus installed / running.
    This is not necessary.
    You're welcome :)
