I got hit with the System Check malware/virus a few weeks ago and I took it in to a computer place. They seemed to have fixed it, but a few days ago the Internet browsers stopped working because of the computer not have the executable files or something. It kept asking me what program I wanted to use to run Explorer, etc. I found a way online to fix that, but now I'm having problems with the computer telling me I don't have permission to access files and programs.

I found your site with a search and I followed your instructions on the READ and RUN me first page. The problem is that it won't let me save them anywhere but in my personal "Michael" folder in the documents area. When I try to run MalareBytes, MGTools and SUPERAntispyware it keeps telling me that Windows needs my permission to continue and then it won't continue. The same dialogue box keeps popping up. It seems to know what I'm trying to do. I read a similar thread from william02812 but it didn't really help me.

    Please help!
    Thanks.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You need to disable UAC and reboot your PC before trying to run these tools. The instructions for this were in the READ & RUN ME FIRST.

    Hi.

Thanks for responding so quickly. I looked over and over through the READ & RUN FIRST and I can't find what UAC is. I tried to do everything on the list in order. Some of the steps did not work. I deleted the JAVA 26 and downloaded the JAVA 30 and then it wouldn't let me install the new JAVA.

I also was unable to delete the ASK Toolbar in Add/Remove programs. It said I didn't have access. I had no idea if I had disc emulation so I ran the DeFogger.

Other than that I can't see what else I need to disable. Could you spell out what UAC is please?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

UAC stands for User Account Control.

For more details read step #2 of the Vista and Win 7 Malware Removal/Cleaning Procedure See: Step 2: Disabling User Account Control
