USB ports don't work and audio doesn't work

I'm having several problems, and I'm not sure if they're related or not:

Initially, about a week and a half ago, my computer wouldn't be able to load the desktop in a normal boot. In another forum, after showing them some reports from programs they had me run, they suggested it might be due to the piratebay toolbar that I was installed on my computer. The next day, I realized I have some (unresolved) issues:

    My USB ports don't work.

My sound driver doesn't work. I'm tried disabling and enabling it, I've tried uninstalling and letting the computer automatically reinstall it. I downloaded one from the Toshiba site.

So far, it's the exact same problem as this thread, which was never resolved:

However I have one more problem (sorry for loading this on you guys, any help is REALLY appreciated). Everytime I close the lid of my laptop, the screen will go black and the computer will remain on and freezes, which it is not supposed to do. I've tried different settings and so on. I know its frozen becuase the caps lock light won't go on and off when I click it, and the screen remains black regardless of what I do.

If anyone can resolve any of these issues, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you

    HI

I have to ask in that with you installing the PirateBay toolbar do you download warez apps?

If you do and I'm not judging here, you may well have malware on your PC as I have seen the USB ports malfunction due to malware and the best option is to run the below as written and then see if our malware experts can see if you have any malware and if you dont then post back and we can try some other options.

I did everything that the link you provided said to do, as well as the links within that thread about removing malware. I have the antispyware scan running right now, after which I will run an antimalware and something called 'combofix.'

However, I do not have nor know about the warez app. I didn't even download the piratebay toolbar purposefully; if you've ever been to the site, you might have noticed that they have a download button for the toolbar next to the download button for a torrent. Maybe I clicked it accidentally, but I'm usually careful about that :'(

    Hi

After following the malware removal guide and help are you still having this issue as I note you are having a sleep issue also [Software forum]?

Multiple weird issues tend to link to a corrupt install or broken install of Windows and in the main a re-install is the best option after you have saved your important docs and files etc.

I was considering that. How would I go about it?

    Hi

Well there are multiple routes to re-installing Windows and a few questions for you in the Toshiba PC is what model version is it?

As many branded PCs have a restore to factory setting option which would be the same as installing Windows afresh or if you have a retail Windows disk and licence you can install that.

Best option is to tell us what model Toshiba you have as they may well have restore instructions.

It is a Toshiba Satellite L505D - GS6000. I don't have the windows disk or the license. I'm pretty Best Buy doesn't give it to you for some reason :/

And since my USB ports do not work, I'll be wirelessly transferring my information to my father's windows 7, and then I'll upload that to an external hard drive.

Well, I found the software on my computer that would allow me to write "recovery media discs," it's taking up 5 dvd discs. Hopefully those will work. However, I would just like to make sure, but I will not need some sort of product key for Windows 7, right?

    Hi

The key should be held in the back that is created with the Toshiba backup utility as OEM PCs generally install differently to retail versions of Windows as in that have a pre-determined key that's in the backup/restore DVD etc.
