I'm having a few problems running combofix and rootrepeal. I've let combofix run for over 2 hours when it's scanning files and says it's going to take 10 min or longer, it then freezes everything. Same thing on Rootrepeal.

I attached all the other logs that I could run. Thanks for any help provided.

But why are you running them to begin with. What malware problems are you having that you decided to run the READ & RUN ME.

Also note that you are not running the current version of MGtools.

Sorry for not specifying, but I posted a different topic in which I was trying to run hijack this and I wasn't able to install it. I was told to run the programs in the read & run me.

I was experiencing a bunch of error messages when I downloaded files that were saying that writing on my hard drive failed. Sometimes while I'm browsing online, certain things won't load, like images would be replaced by black boxes. Also, there seems to be a random file in my recycle bin that I can't delete or restore, the file changes from time to time.

I also redid the MGtools log, which I think the 1/25/12 version is the latest.

Ah! Then you should have responded in that same thread.

None of this sounds like a malware problem. The first sounds like you may be running out of free hard disk space ( and your drive C free space is very small by today's standards. You should not have partition it with drive C so small and drive D much larger ). And the second problem sound more like a firewall setting issue or a setting that you have changed in your browser to block images from being downloaded.

And without knowing exactly what file in the Recycle Bin you are referring to, all I can say is the Recycle Bin will never fully empty if you look at it using Windows Explorer. However, if you open it up from the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, it should look empty after you have selected Empty Recycle Bin.

You logs are clean. The only issues I see are that you are not installing your Windows Updates ( you are way out of date ) and you have no protection software installed.

But we will run two more scans just to be complete.

Goto the below link and follow the instructions for running TDSSKiller from Kaspersky
    • Be sure to attach your log from TDSSKiller
Now please also download MBRCheck to your desktop.

See the download links under this icon http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MGDownloadLoc.gif
    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
      • Done! Press ENTER to exit...
    • Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
      • Found non-standard or infected MBR.
      • Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:
    • Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
    • MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.
    • Attach this log to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

I know I've had the problem with the C drive before, since that's how they partitioned my hard drive when I bought my computer at the store. I'll just need to find a way to free some space.

About the recycle bin problem, the file that usually stays in the bin is the last one that I tried to empty. On the recycle bin window that I opened from the desktop it looks like it's empty but a file still lingers in there. Sometimes it's a "WINDOWS" folder that's in there. Every time I try to empty the bin, there's always an extra file, and sometimes an error appears that says "Cannot remove folder Dd14: The directory is not empty."

These logs are also clean. Thus I don't believe you are having malware problems.

You can post questions about this in the Software Forum. It may just be that you need to run chkdsk to cleanup disk/file system errors.

Thanks for all your help, I'll try to see if I can fix this in the other forums.

    You're welcome.

Since you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
