My computer has been running slow for some time... but noticed a step-change in performance one evening which has persisted ever since...

I hadn't deliberately downloaded or installed any new software.

Followed the Read Me First guide, which has improved performance (possibly simply due to the fundamentals - defrag, CClean etc), but the scans threw up a number of possible threats that I haven't resolved - can anyone offer any advice?

I'm running Windows Vista, if you need to know.

    I've attached the requisite logs!

Thanks in advance - you guys do a great job!

No not really. Nothing valid was found. Your logs are all clean. However you are about 7 - 8 months out of date with your version of MGtools. You always need to use the current online version. So it would be a good idea to attach a log from the current version just to double check.

Thanks. I'll do that. Just for the record, though, I had a hell of a time trying to get Hitman to open... isn't that generally due to malware?

Or is it likely to have *been* malware that's been fixed by one of the other utilities?

Sometimes malware can cause problems like this but your logs are all clean. It's possible that some piece of protection software was getting in the way.

No as none was found to remove.

You can run the below just to be on the safe side.

Goto the below link and follow the instructions for running TDSSKiller from Kaspersky
    • Be sure to attach your log from TDSSKiller

    Correct! Nothing there either.

Since you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Press and hold the Windows key http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/Windows_Logo_key.gif and then press the letter R on your keyboard. This opens the Run dialog box.
      • Copy and paste the below into the Run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
