it is a toshiba L675 laptop amd processor. I was trying to download a bunch of updates to windows 7 and it runs for hours and then says failed and is reverting to original. I have heard this is a common problem. If there is a thread on this already could somebody direct me to it? If not any suggestions or questions? thanks for the help.

Also download from oldest to newest, in that order.

I had similar issues with windows 7, but then I took an arrow in the co-processor. Bad jokes aside it is probably too many updates at once that may be the issue, has it failed more than once? If not try again and if it fails a second time, then perhaps install them manually one at a time.

If you get an option to get help with this problem, try using the Windows Update Troubleshooter. I've had to use it several times in Windows 8.1 and it has allowed the updates to be successful.

I may be causing my own problems with Windows Update because of other software I'm running though.

it was 54 updates and like 545mbs. it says downloading, then reconfiguring and updating and when it gets to 98% complete it says failure, it is now reverting to original, I am trying to avoid a recovery or updating to 10. I will check out your recommendations and see if I can make it work. already tried the troubleshooter. thanks

Are you wanting to delay updating to Win10 or are you never wanting to go to Win10? It makes a difference on which updates you allow and things you will want to do to avoid Win10 altogether.

There are some good links already given about delay or never install Win10 here.
Earthling gave this link: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/windows/how-stay-on-windows-7-8-forever-3614204/ if you do not ever want Win10.

I have been avoiding Win10 but plan to update soon so therefore I have hidden updates that are only for Win10 until I am ready.
Earthling gave me a good list of updates to do that here in post #12 http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/windows-10-trying-to-force-upgrade.295938/

bit the bullet and updated to 10. it fixed the problem. seems to me like forced update. don't like the way they make you do the update to fix problems with their other software. software and programs are going in the wrong direction with security, shortly security will be non-exsistent. thanks for all the help.
