Is there a problem with the free Advanced System Care? I have tried downloading from CNET, Major Geeks and a couple of other websites without success because it appears there is Malware/Viruses within the program.

Here is the common result of Antivirus warnings which occur whenever I try to download...

    upload_2017-3-21_18-7-43.png

I removed the Advanced System Care program from my laptop this morning as there was some scanning problem which caused crashes. So I went through housekeeping everything (I do daily updates) and as an added precaution, I even removed, cleaned up and some housekeeping before trying to download same web browsers (e.g. Mozilla Firefox and Chrome) then again tried downloading Advanced System Care and screen image shows what the Antivirus threw up while preventing successful download.

    Please advise?

    Thanking you in advance.

    Cheers

Two MG members have now reported this issue with no help from Avira. If it happened to me I would have no hesitation in doing the following:
Using a good deep uninstaller (IoBit's uninstaller is good) I would remove Avira totally, and use something better, my favourite being Comodo IS.

    Hi Max

    Hi Max

Thanks for your feedback...I'll try your suggestion and then again try the Advanced System Care.

Sorry for delayed response...system keeps freezing up every time these Security Alerts occur.

    Will report back...

    Cheers

    Just an added note:

I just installed ASC as a test (having first created a system restore point), then I scanned every part of it with three different programs and these were the results:

    Comodo AV - 'clean'
    SuperAntispyware - 'clean'
MalwareBytes - 523 PUPs (potentially unwanted programs)

After the quarantining of those PUPs I could no longer uninstall it!

Having said that, I played around with ASC for a while - it's been years since I last tried it - and I hate it.

    Hi Max,

I find aspects of ASC quite useful (don't use all of it) for housekeeping and cleaning my laptop.

Definitely having a problem with AVIRA...uninstalled, rebooted then cleaned everything up, loaded your Comodo to try it out...all looked good, until suddenly same Avira virus alerts started. Had a search and discovered Uninstall didn't clean up an Avira folder under Programs...found I could not delete folder or contents as I don't have Administrator or System Permission.

So now I need to completely iradicate Avira so that is my focus as I reckon that's where the problem appears to lie. Have searched on getting permissions so now I'll have to make a new post re Permission to get rid of ALL Avira folder/files.

    Thanks again!

    Cheers

    Hiya Eldon,

Thought I had replied to your post but can't see my response(?!!)

Anyway, went through your web thread and it appears Avira and Advance Systems Care programs are on a collision course as currently can't use both.

Right now I need to see how to get permission to delete System / Administrator files because there is still an Avira folder with files I found under Programs even after I did the uninstall and clean up!

    Thanks again

    Cheers

    legalsuit.
You will have to logon with an Administrator account.
If you still can't delete that folder, you can restore the Permissions with Tweaking.com - Windows Repair.
    This is the Portable version.
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/tweaking_com_windows_repair_portable.html

Click the Repairs tab and then Open Repairs.
Select only the Permissions options - the first 3 check boxes.
    Click Start Repairs.
When it has completed, restart your PC.

    Dumb question:
Logon with an Administrator account...? Presume there's a process to get to the window that has the options to do this (embarrassed)?

Following your instruction, got this far, but could not find the "Permissions Options"...from this window do I click "Start Repairs" as is?

You were pre-warned i was dumb!

    1. Open Control Panel > User accounts.
You'll see which user(s) is an Administrator.

Malwarebytes with updated definitions as of this moment, continues to detect 547 Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs) entries in ASC. I don't know about AVIRA at this moment as I don't use it.

Now really embarrassed...never had a problem in past to get to Control Panel.

On this DELL laptop with WINDOWS 10, going to START it is not shown...went through opening folders in START and can't see what it comes under. Not under under SETTINGS...will have to continue checking when I get time to search for wherever Control Panel is located on this (Grrrrrrrrrrrrr) blasted laptop!

Did you right click on start? Shows up for me on Win10 that way.
Also if you type Control Panel in Search it comes up.

    Hi Katkat

Remarkably, just when I was about to Shut Down, I did exactly that and spotted Control Panel...but don't have time to go further with Eldon's advice so will continue later.

    Thanks muchly for your advice!

    Hi Eldon,
Okay, back into focus trying to sort out my Windows 10 problem with Avira folder and files still lurking in Computer Program folder which won't allow deletion without System Permission.

Problems encountered before I can go through your above procedure:
    1. How to logon with an Administrator Account? (I've since identified name of Administrator - but no knowledge of how to get there with Windows 10).
    2. Today tried the "Portable Version" of http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/tweaking_com_windows_repair_portable.html this took me to the web page for Reimage Repair and after going through I had to purchase the product as it needed a Licence Key Number before allowing me to progress. I then had to make the phone call to the States as directed for getting the product which was then allowed to run and upon completion had the computer restart.
But I still did not see the steps you noted to get to the "Permissions Option" for the "first 3 check boxes"
So I still have been unable to delete the Avira folder and its files, which has been my main objective as Avira continues to produce alerts of Suspicious files which dramatically slows down my PC while it goes through its scanning process.

I can't seem to get to the "tweaking" application as I did a while back, now it produces different results as noted above.

I still need to delete the Avira folder and its files so need procedural steps for getting to point of Permission then how to put things back in order after Permission to delete completed.

    Help?

    Cheers

Look at the screenshot in your post #9. And again in my post #10.
The first 3 check boxes are:
    01 - Reset Registry Permissions
    02 - Reset File Permissions
    03 - Reset Service Permissions

Also have a read over here.
    https://www.avira.com/en/support-for-home-knowledgebase-detail/kbid/88

I did not post anything about using and/or purchasing this software.

    Hi Eldon

I did try going through your previous steps but for some reason ended up with Reimage Repair.
I've again tried now following your last Post and got to the Tweaking exec (before it was going to Major Geeks and took me to a different route). I unchecked all the boxes except for:
    01 - Reset Registry Permissions
    02 - Reset File Permissions
    03 - Reset Service Permissions

However, the repair failed, ending with the following notations:

The current repair has failed to start 4 times.
Something is keeping the repair from running.

Try running the repairs in Windows Safe Mode. (This will keep 3rd party programs from getting in the way of the repairs)
If the repairs still fail then please post in the Tweaking.com forums for support.

    Re running in Safe Mode:
Yes, I am going to do this now after rebooting.

Re ...Reimage Repair and after going through I had to purchase the product as it needed a Licence Key Number...
Correct that you "did not post anything about using and/or purchasing this software." but as I could not continue with the procedure, without a Licence Key Number, I was stopped until the product was purchased...hence my purchase.

    Hi Eldon

Followed your notation "...running the repairs in Windows Safe Mode..." and managed to finally delete Avira folder and files.

    What a Draaaaammmmmaaaaaa! Holy Mackerel!

Finally did a full clean up of everything and loaded software I normally use for housekeeping. Now my lil' ol' laptop is humming sweetly, quietly and quickly. SMWACK!

Thanks for your patience and advice.

    Cheers
