Domain Name Protocol For Blocking ?

Need to block (with Privatefirewall 7.0, and yes we understand it is somewhat obsolescent/unsupported, but so far so good) a domain name, but not sure of the correct protocol.

In this case the Mbam popup was east7.doyourbid.bid.

Do we 'block' a the entire name with 3 dots, or just the doyourbid.bid ?

Ie may a domain name have 2 dots or only 1 ?

Hope that makes sense, not sure how else to ask the question.

Thoughts ?

 

It depends what Malwarebytes classified it as. I suggest you run the steps in the Read & Run Me First Guide and, having a posted a new thread there with the scam logs get one of the experts in the Specialist Malware Forum to analyse the resulting logs of your system.
Malware is very rarely focussed on just one thing and it would be much safer for you to do the above.

Also, we did find an answer to my 'very general' question at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_name where it talks about 'sub-domains' and different 'levels' in domain names... ie apparently more than 1 dot fits protocol.
So as you indicated, it sounds like its a question of what is required by PrivateFirewall.
Under the PF entry box for URLs to block, it does take more than 2 levels of domain names (and it does reject some names as not valid when we mis-type), so for now we will probably use that multi-level protocol.
It would be nice if just the 2 level worked, but as you suggested, we will check on the SOFTWARE forum on that.
