My computer was fine two days ago and now windows will not load up. I keep getting the below message. I don't care about saving anything on there, I just want to reinstall everything. I tried booting from cd but the logo comes on and then it says boot disk failure insert sytem disk and press enter but nothing happens and it just keeps showing that message. Can anyone offer me any suggestions? Thank you! Is there anyway to run chkdsk from the boot menu?

Which Operating System is the disc?
If you hit F12 during the logo screen do you get an option to choose which device you want to boot from--Cd or Hd?

 

A couple more questions:

1. Make, and model of laptop/PC
2. Approximate age of hard drive/system
3. OS version, and service pack
4. Do you have a Windows DVD/CD?

You really only want to run chkdsk under certain parameters as a last resort if you've tried everything else to boot the system, and recover files. This sounds like it MAY be a failing hard drive, or possibly bad RAM writing data erroneously to the hard drive. I have seen both. Many times, chkdsk just "guesses" at what it should write, and where.

I would start with some "DOS" tools, like the Windows Memory diagnostic from the F8 menu at startup, should your Windows version support it, and you can boot that far.
