laptop works fine unless i plug in a thumb drive, blue screen just as the driver is installed. formatted the thumb drive, still happens.

    The 0x8E:
Given that the first argument, 0xC0000005, usually refers to a bad or old driver and it was during driver install that it failed ...

Is all your laptop hardware all running on the latest drivers? That'd be the first thing I'd check - chipset and USB controllers especially. Is Windows fully updated too?

laptop is deditcated to playing music. NO INTERNET. nothing extra... winamp and mp3s... new music is loaded via thumb drive

Windows is not updated, all factory set. this worked fine 2 days ago, then i plugged the thumb drive in and it crashed... plugged in second thumb drive and that worked. copied the music to second thumb drive, plugged in and crash with second drive.
formatted the drive again, still crashed without the music.

it seems there is a virus on the thumb drive that survives formatting

Yes, that would explain it. I think you need to run our Read and Run me procedure on all machines that the USB stick has been connected to.

Hi...as Satrow stated, if you think you are infected, you will need to go through all instructions in the link he posted and post all your attached logs in a new thread in the Malware Removal forum.

Please do not post anymore inline logs. We do not allow them here because they mess up the search function. Here are the instructions on how to attach files to your post: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=86880
