OK since no one seems to be able to assist. either busy with other issues or just dont know i have done some work on my own and found a few other small issues and it has improved, but something is still taking over all my cpu power and slowing everything to a crawl. something said i had a problem with a system32\contents folder, but i cant find that folder. if someone could please please look at my scan results and assit me in fixing this. I have 3 months worth of work on this pc and if i lose it im screwd.

    thank you in advance

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

The more messages you post in your thread, the longer it takes to get a response. Each message moves you to the end of the work queue, and we work from oldest to newest thread order. So each time you bumped your thread by adding another message, you went to the end of the queue. This made it take more than 24 hours to get an answer!

You're problems may not be malware (and I would bet they are not), but the only way for us to know is to have you follow our required standard cleaning procedures.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:

      • [*]runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
        [*]newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Thank you for your response. Sorry i did not know that i was shooting myself in the foot by replying to myself, but i could not get fullposts through. i already did all of the steps in the read & run post. above i have attached 3 of the 5. i will attach the the newkey attachment, but i cant get the getrunkey to give me anything but a blank page. and i tried the XPhome fix.

I greatly appreciate your help. The steps i have done so far has improved my performance already.

Any advice you could give me would be great.

You need to EXTRACT all the files from both ShowNew.zip and GetRunKey.zip as instructed. You are not doing that and that is why you could not get a GetRunKey log at all and why the log from ShowNew is not complete.

Well my first assumption appears to be correct. I do not see any malware issues. You just have one item I suggest fixing. The below service from Symantec is running and you now have AVG as an antivirus.
    O23 - Service: SymWMI Service (SymWSC) - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe
This service needs to be removed. You cannot do this by just using HJT to fix the line. The below procedure should fix this.

Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'. On the page that opens, scroll down to SymWMI Service ... then right click the entry, select 'Properties' and press 'Stop Service'. When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the 'Start-up Type' to 'Disabled'. Press 'OK' until you get back to Windows.

Next, run HJT, but instead of scanning, click on the "None of the above, just start the program" button at the bottom of the choices. At the lower right, click on the 'Config" button, and then the Misc tools' button ... select 'Delete an NT Service" ... copy/paste the following into the box that opens, and press "OK":

    SymWSC

If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.

Now exit HJT and reboot when it tells you it needs to.
After reboot just check your HJT log to make sure the O23 line for Symantec is gone.

thank you for your help. sorry it took so long to reply. i tried to do what you said but i get the error " The service you enterd is system-critical! It can't be deleted.

Also if its not a malwear issue what do you think it could be?

    Thank you

My instructions contained the following sentence.
Did you continue? Did you check to see whether the O23 line is now gone?

In order to know what your problem is you will have to be more specific in the details of your problem. What process or processes are using all of your CPU time. Exactly when does the PC crash. Is it only when certain applications are run? Does it crash in safe mode? Also is your CPU use a problem in safe mode?

What did you remove and what do you mean by "original program"?

I ment when i removed things like norton and AOL. There was still some residule add ons that were not removed. so i removed them and i removed things i didnt recognise one was like ANI32 i think i found it odd that it said i used the program rarely, but it was accessed on the same day.

Thank you agin for all you Help.

Okay, so if you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
