Hey... I need some help please.
My laptop is constantly using about 7-15% (CPU usage) for some reason; JUST starting today. If I open a program or try to do something in the program, the CPU usage jumps to 100%.
I noticed this morning how slow my computer was running.
    Results of HiJackThis: found nothing.
Results of CCleaner: removed a little junk;nothing major.
    Windows Defender is running.

In task manager, the System Idle Process is 98-99% and the leading programs taking up the most K's are:
    iexplorer with 48,884
    Rtvscan with 11,512
    explorer with 20,172
svchost with 21,076 and it's on there again with 2,120
MsMpEng with 7,908 (w/e that is)
    YahooCental.exe with 7,748
....and everything else is 1000k or above (average is 2000k). Only about 3 items are less than 1000k.
Task Manager says I have 58 Processes running and Commit Charge is 326M/1248M

(Side note: I am very protective over my laptop...I hate spyware and I typically don't have issues.)

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE, PLEASE Help me?! I hate when my computer messes up...and I can't fix it! Thank you soooooo much.

    Try the following:

Click START, then RUN, then type in MSCONFIG (press enter)

Click the radial button: Selective STARTUP.

    UNCHECK: Load STARTUP Items.

    Press OK, yes, to reboot.

If you see a normal system, then it is something started up that is taking your system resources.

Next, slowly check pertient programs to start, reboot, check the %, I.E. antivirus programs (one check box at a time), defender, etc.

    PITA, but it works.....

Don't know if this applies to your situation, but worth a look:
"CPU utilization goes up to 100% when viewing AVI files it slows the rest of the system to a crawl. As always though, there's a registry hack that can solve this problem, you just have to know where to look!
Load up regedit (start -> Run then type regedit and press the Ok button) and follow this path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Classes -> CLSID -> {87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE650DC73E}.
Once you're there delete the key then save and exit. Once that's done AVI files will no longer suck up all the CPU resources".
