Hi,I have a problem that just started up this morning,my cpu is between 80 and 100%. It seems that smc.exe is using up the cpu's I know its my sygate firewall. I've uninstalled it and the cpu's went back to normal,,,reinstalled it and there very high again. I ran a full sweep with spysweeper and ran NOD 32 and came up with nothing. What could be my problem, help please. And what ever it is,,,it's slowly down my system.

Norby: I have used Sygate Firewall for about 2 years, and it never runs my CPU up like that. I just run it in normal mode, and it uses maybe 2% of the CPU. Are you sure it is Sygate, or maybe some lil bug that is doing it? I know you said you uninstalled Sygate and it stopped, but I really think there has to be something else hogging the CPU. Maybe someone else will come along and know more than me, I just don't see Sygate as a resorce hog on my machine.

look into your startup programs under your sys config utilty, are there more than 1 sygate firewall running on the list.

Process Explorer will tell you what is hogging your CPU cycles.

Glad you have (partly) solved the problem. Just out of curiousity, did Process Explorer help?
I like to recommend PE and like to see the successful use of it, by others. Bazza

It helped a little, very much more detailed info then Windows Task Manager Processes. Thanks for your help Bazza,my PC's running fast and smooth again but I'm still looking for the answer to Sygate's hogging CPU's.

    HI!
Do you remember installing any new programs just before the problem started?
Sometimes Firewalls and other programs don't get along and the fights that ensue probably cause excessive CPU usage.
    Just a thought.
