Congrats to MA, CP and anyone spreading the word about MajorGeeks. :major :cool

This is the first time I have noticed more than 1,000 Guests on any MG Forum, at any time of the day. I have probably missed out on this happening earlier, in time, but the congrats still stand.

What a pity we can't convert more Guests into MG members, but I know many MG members don't always log on as Members unless really necessary.

By habit, I always log on as a Member virtually as soon as I visit MG. One reason is that I like my thread posts to be most recent to the earliest, which is opposite to the way that the "Guests" thread posts appear. ;)

    See thumbnail.

I'm on the ball, TimW. :-D
I'm talking about 1,000 guests in ONE Forum, not overall. ;)

Yeah but you have to remember that this sight is extremely prolific on Google searches for any PC related issues, especially virus/bugs etc.
So we get so many guests because they find their answer without having to ask, so most don't need to join.

It just shows this place is just bursting at the sides with awesomeness :strong

    Huh

Dotn see the point in that statistic as its ever changing and to be honest in the past its been much more, depends on time of date, time of year (holidays are best for most users online) and then depends if a new big app has been released or not, etc

just as of this post we have over 2.8K

If that was actual members and not guests I would be excited and be screaming the house down, but its not a great statistic.

Stats are not listed per forum area like Software etc or not in the image you attached as that is the main current active users stat, the individual ones would be like this

Sorry Halo, the thumbnail below is from Page 1 of the Software Forum today. (just now) and includes the last thread on Page 1, as an example.

This clip shows 785 guests, if I read it correctly, in the Software Forum. :)
Scrolling down to the bottom of page 1 was where I found these stats.

Ah now there is a more accurate image, the first one attached could have been anywhere!

Again does this mean much, does it get us any further, sadly only a few actual members online, while this is great and I'm not knocking it as "some" members do contribute alot to tech support, a vast amount of IPs off the guests are from known spamming IPs.

It is not always understood that the mods see a lot more info than the average member and are vigilant in picking up on the IPs of known spammers.
On a site as big as MGs it is a time consuming and sometimes thankless job (but somebody has to do it )

I report a lot of spam that gets by the filters but only because the majority of mods are on US time zones and us Europeans are a minority (except for David the super mod) and of course they have a life away from here,

Thanks Bill, indeed it is and I've removed a stack this morning and still not gone through the new signup list of members for User Names, email addys and IPs that stick out as spammers.

Indeed you do Bill and I have to say for you and others that do report this, its very well recieved and we are thankful of your reports, it helps a great deal, may fill my inbox with repeats fo spamm posts but thats OK.

But back to stats, the internet is not a great place to try and nail down to stats, forums are not going to give you great stats, they are too hit and miss, traffic stats from the server are ok but will not weed out the many hits you will get from spammers etc

The forum is popular and has been for many years so not having a go at your thread Bazza at all, its more the math as in its never going to work out, as we have had in various forums much more traffic than you listed in your first post.

I'm not kncoking the enthusiasm for the forum as its commendable and something I do and its not seen openly and I have not mentioned this before, but I always promote MGs in Microsoft circles as well as my work circles, these networks give a wide promotion to the site, it may or may not add members, in some cases it does and I know some MSFT folk are members as well as other companies Directors and Managers.
