Ouch. Just spent the last 13 hours working on a website. Not at ALL nice. I gave my colleague 2 weeks to work on the PHP cart side of the website, and he's given me the code (that's better than usual), but of course, a large chunk of the functionality is missing, so I've had to write that myself.

The cart he wrote for a wholesale website, for example, didn't have a total function. WHAT?? Isn't that like one of the main functions of a shopping cart? The method which he used to change the quantity of the items in the cart was also bizarre. He put the quantity, and then next to it two input boxes, one with add, one with remove. You had to type in how many you wanted to add or remove from the order. Why? I had to re-write that part of it to make it understandable. Just have the quantity in an input box, let the user change it then hit an update button.

One thing that really puzzled me, along with the lack of total on the cart, was the lack of the one key feature that the client specifically requested.. the discount system. This simply took the total ammount of the order and took away a set percentage depending on the ammount. I had to write that. From scratch, almost. I'm a Designer for goodness sake, not a PHP coder.

Another key feature he missed out: the video viewer on the products page. Almost all of that was javascript, another thing that a Designer tends not to do.

He also only did 1/3 of the data entry that I asked him to do. I'd be alright with it if he only did half of all the data, that's all I asked of him. He's not even done half of THAT. So I've got all of that to do. All of it through his god awful backend which breaks the product viewer if you put a return carriage into it.

So, all of that along with what I set out to do in the first place (the DESIGN tweaks) made my day a very long one, with only a couple of breaks, from 10am to 1am.

Want to know the punch line? We have a meeting for launch. Tomorrow (or should I say today?).

    NOT GOOD.

Don't you just love it, that in order to complete a given task you must rely on someone else to do their job; and then their work was halfa**, or just not even near completion.

I like Halo's advice, get a cod and slap the cod up side his head.

Hmmmmm....... How to get said useless person fired and draw both paychecks? Maybe Major Attitude can figure that one out.

But the cod idea does sound, how you say, more personally satisfying.
