16g memory card in a 8g device?

    if a device (phone, mp3 player etc.) says it accepts up to an 8g memory card, what happens if you put a 16g in? if it won't work, why not? please be as technical as you wish.

    could you be more specific on which device you are talking about?

    usually, if it says it only accepts up to an 8GB card, its only gonna work with up to 8GB cards, unless you are lucky and it works with 16GB cards.
