1803 Update Without 1709?

Do you have to have 1709 before installing 1803?
Will not having 1709 prevent 1803 from installing automatically (if you don't prevent it)?

If you have 1709, then you can prevent the update, if the wish.
There are a few posts on majorgeeks at the moment, that you may want to look at- before you decide.
A clean install seems to be the better option for some of 1803.
If you have the COA for W10 then it should install o.k -
If you do not, it will still install, but will need a COA to work in its full capacity-you will probably need an e-mail address, and I would suggest you look at other posts before installing, to avoid problems- OR, you could test your system as I did in this link

Apparently you don't need 1709 before 1803 (I had to "Hide" 1709 due to a compatibility issue) and was really wondering if that would prevent 1803 from eventually trying to install.

 

If you have w10 , and it has been activated, then it will be recognized by Window servers, and automatically activate when you go on-line, after the update.
From the posts I see around the web, it seems that possibly 5% of so called 'older pc/laptops' are having trouble, but I seem to see more with issues , than those with none.
