The issue I have is I cloned my operating system partition of my 1TB hard drive to my 1.5TB hard drive and I need my 1.5TB hdd formatted.

The exact steps I took to get to where I am now was backing up my system image of what I thought was just the operating system partition to a 500gb hdd. When I tried to restore the image to a second partition on my 500gb hdd it was instead restored to the 1.5TB hdd.

My other issue is I basically want to split my 500gb hdd into 2 partitions which I know how to do, but I don't know how to clone my operating system from the 1TB hdd and put it on the 500gb hdd.

    Thanks in advance.

You can't clone a hard drive to a smaller hard drive.

Ok I get that and after I get my main issue fixed I'll just go ahead and format and reinstall windows 7. The main issue is I now have both my 1TB and my 1.5TB hard drives with the same system image and I would like my 1.5TB hdd formatted. I've tried to do it from within the operating system of my 1TB and it tells me the hdd is offline because of them being conflicted by both having the same system image. All I need to know is how to format the 1.5TB and I'll be good to go.

I have a Windows 7 DVD and I know somewhere in my house is a Windows Vista DVD and I also have a slipstreamed Windows XP CD. I also have EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition. Would any of those items help to solve my problem?

Easeus should be able to format your HDD.
Open Easeus select the 1.5tb drive and first delete it then select format after that let it do the job.
It will restart your PC and you will not be able to use it untill the operation is finished.

You can also use either your Vista or Win 7 installation disks, though it's a bit scary initially as you have to go through the first couple of screens as if you really do intend installing. However at the third screen is the option Repair my Computer and on the following screen you can open a command prompt. There you can type format /? and all the formatting syntax and options are explained.

Initially the command prompt is at x:\ so you need to change that to the letter of the drive you wish to format, such as c: You can check that you are looking at the correct drive by typing dir /p and checking that the files and folders you see listed are those you expect to see. On machines with multiple drives/partitions it's a good idea before making any changes to insert an identifying text file at the root of the drive. Avoids all risk of formatting the wrong drive.

Easeus is certainly a simpler option but success is guaranteed with the OS disk. I still have nightmares about my first encounter with the Win 7 RC when I used Acronis Disk Director to create and format the partition and the computer behaved for all the world as if the hard disk was failing bigtime. There is more than one version of NTFS so it is vital to use the correct one when formatting.

Thanks that worked like a charm. Although I didn't go exactly through the format process I was able to delete all the partitions that I did not need so now everything is back to the way it was. I learned my lesson so now I'll just go ahead and start from scratch.
