2 hard drives, one as master, one as slave

ok, this sounds stupid i know but i've never actually done this!
i'm going to sell my old 20gb drive to a friend and fit it for him. His current h/d is only 8gb so he's buying this add more space. He doesn't want to lose anything on his current 8 so i said i'm sure its possible to hook the 20gb up as a slave. one problem i thought to myself - how??!!!! do you just set the jumper to slave on the 20 and attach it to the other ide connector that goes to the 8gb? help!

 

Yes. That is all you need to do to hook it up. You might need to format the HD. Remember to ground yourself on the case to discharge static electricity before you touch anything.

 

yea just hook it up and u might need drivers for it that should have come with the HD or you can probably download then from the company website. also it would b a good idea to partition the new hard drive too

 

ok, how do i create partitions without entering windows setup??!!!

 

You could just leave the drive as one big partition, or you could divide it into sections(partitions), which windows would see as separate hard drives, if that is your preference. Go to control panel>administrative tools>computer management>disk management then right-click on the the disk drive you want to partition for a menu of options. Disk 0 is usually the system drive and Disk 1 should be the slave drive.
