2+ Ram sticks makes system unstable

    3 months ago I purchased a Giga-byte K8NS Pro board, with a 2800+ 64-bit AMD. I use 2 512 Pc 2700 dimms from Kingstone.

Recently I started having issues with the computer rebooting randomly after about 10-20 minutes of starting up. I started pulling things out and found out that if I removed 1 stick of ram, the system would run stable. I figured it was bad ram, so I rounded up 2 more identical dimms. So, now I've got 5 512 Pc2700 dimms. No matter what I do, if I ever run with 2 or more sticks, my system is very unstable. 70% of the time I can't even get past a POST successfully, and when I do, windows will lock up before getting to the login screen. Below are my tests:

Dimm in slot 1 and slot 2 = unstable
Dimm in slot 1 and slot 3 = unstable
Dimm in slot 2 = more stable, but still not stable enough to use
    Dimm in Slot 2 & slot 3 = unstable
    Dimm in slot 1 = 100% stable

I've ran MEMTEST86+ on every dimm and each checks out 100% error free. Tech support suggests setting my ram clock speed to 166 (which I have not tried yet because I have yet to be physically in front of my computer. Is there any reason why clock speed at 166 would make the system be stable with 2 sticks of ram? Any other thoughts as to the problem?

    Regards -

Time to get in touch with Abit tech support. (I hope it is better than Asus). If memory serves me correctly (sometimes it does), the memory controller is on the processor, so the problem may be there. There should be others here that can give you more insight, but I can feel your frustration. Is this a home built or store bought with warranty?
