    Hello
I have read about this connector and it seems there is a slight drop of glue on it besides the clip you squeeze. They don't want it to slip due to the large amount of friction. I find that I cannot get it out no matter how I squeeze and wiggle. I have tried squeezing the clip and lifting one side also.
Therefore, I cannot replace my PSU which I need to do.
Is there any tip or trick to removing this connector?
    TY
    Peter

I would be surprised if it is real glue that chemically bonds the materials. I suspect it is really just glob of glue :)rolleyes:) from a hot-glue gun. And I bet if careful, you can dig it out without causing damage with a small flat-tip screwdriver or ice pick or something similar. Just be sure you unplug the PSU from wall and touch bare metal of the case interior before reaching in. Use very good lighting and be extra careful you don't slip and dig a trench through a dozen or so circuit traces on the motherboard.

Yes, my nail or a small flat tip screwdriver under the latch while I squeeze might help -TQ

Are you certain that there is any 'sticky' there at all ? That connector can be very stiff on some systems: I have had to lever it out with a screwdriver, starting on one end and moving to the other, sequentially until it becomes loose enough (!) to pull out. I've also used pliers to get sufficient grip (do not pull too hard for fear of damaging the socket soldering to m/b. I'd only se these methods if the connector was not 'glued' into the socket.

As Digerati says, use anti-static measures when carry this out, and don't force anything :)

I am running fine now but will take this advice into play when I am again in the PC.
I think I need the strength of a youger man do squeeze and pull so I will arrange to have that done.
    Thank you

Unless you have severe arthritis, I doubt it requires that much force. More likely you are not holding your tongue right, or you simply lack the wild abandonment of a foolish young heart and are hesitant to exert enough force for fear of breaking it.

I would hesitate to use pliers. Pliers don't give you the feedback you need to prevent applying too much crushing force just to avoid loosing grip. You don't want to destroy plastic connector - while it is still connected to the board. That would not be good. You do have to press fairly hard on the release catch (a critical step), then rock the connector back and forth along the long axis of the connector while pulling up at the same time - again, while holding your tongue just right! ;)

I used the pliers after I'd torn the skin off my fingers !
It's easy to remove if you pull one end then then the other in a kind of rocking motion, I agree

Been there done that. It is particularly difficult in smaller cases and you can't see where to put your hands because your darn hands are in the way!

o_O I think holding that clip IN and rocking it should do in. When the time comes, I'll remember to do so.

In the day, working on electrical in cars was the same. You could swear a connector could not release then next thing it's in your hand.
Of course holding the tongue just right was imperative! :)

Just remember to rock it across the long access. That will minimize stress on the board itself.

Yes, I remember your saying this.
It sounds as though we should work as long as the clap is squeezef appropriately.
