    Hi,

We have purchased a number of new monitors (mostly Acer) for a small network of older (2002-3) PC's. Shortly after the installation of the monitors, 2 of the PC's had power supply failures and a third is showing symptoms (reboots out of the blue). We also have UPS on all PC's. Is it possible that the monitors are the source of the problem or is it just coincidence?

Unless you have electrical earthing problems in your mains wiring, it is more likely that there is a common problem with the psus from a batch of pcs, which I think you said were bought at the same time?

The earthing issue could arise if the pcs are connected to the UPS but the monitors are not.

The PC's were not bought at the same time or source. So, it's real unlikely that a new large screen monitor could bugger up a pc power supply?

Get an electrician to check the voltage difference on the earths of the monitors and pcs, when they are connected to power but not connected to each other.
    This should be zero.

    Thanks - I'll try that.
