32 bit program on a 64 bit computer

Do 32 bit programs have compatibility issues running on a 64 bit computer?

Nearly all computers made in the last 2 or 3 years are 64-bit, so yes, no problem at all. But do you mean 64-bit computer or 64-bit operating system? If you mean OS then generally they do work, but there are exceptions that won't.

 

Yes, I was talking about a 64 bit OS. On another forum I frequent it's almost an excuse why a program won't run. Either it's not the newest version so it's not made for Windows 7 or it is made for Windows 7 and oh yeah, you've got a 64 bit OS so it's not made for that.

 

That sounds more like excuses to me as 64 bit OS's are getting mainstream now, unlike when 64-bit XP first came out.

 

Oh, did anyone mention running said program in 'compatibilty mode'?

Most of the programs I use are 32 bit, as a lot of programs don't have 64 bit versions yet, and I have Windows 7 64 bit OS. On 64 bit systems, all 32 bit programs are installed in Program Files (x86) folder. I've never come across one I couldn't run.

Is there a particular program you're having an issue with?

 

The one that's "not 64 bit compatible" is Corel Painter Photo Essentials 4.
The ones that aren't "made for Windows 7" are Corel Paint Shop Pro X2 and earlier.
