I've been experiencing internet issues for the past couple of days, which I eventually narrowed down to an issue with 32bit programs only, I believe, since at least 64bit IE and Hitman Pro both work. I'd previously posted in the networking forums here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=266949 , but I suspect that the issue may be malware related, so I'm going to make a post here also. I've done many a scan with various malware scanning software and my system seems to be turning up clean, but it doesn't make sense that after doing my best to rest all of my internet settings and reintalling various browsers such issues continue to persist, including the prevention of windows update from downloading and installing updates properly. As such, I suspect that either malware is still on my computer, or it has left residual damage on my internet settings somehow. See attached for logs. (Note that I did a scan with roguekiller in which I did delete files before reading all the procedures on major geeks, so I've attached two separate files for before and after removal)

    Welcome to MajorGeeks, fz5656,

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tH5H1icUyOc/T1XP6r4puoI/AAAAAAAAAQE/jLwmqQECjCg/s1600/hitmanpro.gif Please attach your log from HitmanPro.

    Also complete the following scans:

http://imageshack.us/a/img841/7292/thisisujrt.gif Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Please save the work in your browsers before proceeding.
    • Shut down your protection software now (antivirus, antispyware...etc) to avoid possible conflicts.
    • Double-click JRT.exe to run (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete.
    • Please ignore any and all error messages as these are normal.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Please attach JRT.txt to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

I don't see any malware related problems.

I see a bunch of errors being generated regarding Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1

I'd uninstall it and then run the attached .net Framework cleanup tool.

I've uninstalled the 1.1 framework and ran the uninstaller tool, but all the same problems still seem to persist... I'm at a loss since I changed precisely no system settings in between having and losing internet, so I don't know what could have happened if not a malware issue.

I would either continue with your thread in the Networking forum or create a new thread in the Software forum, because I do not see any malware here.

If you are not having any other malware related problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    • Any programs we had you download and/or install can be removed at this time.
    • If we had you download and run ComboFix, here is how to uninstall it:
      • Press and hold the Windows key http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h363/debojyotidas/Windows_Logo_key.gif and then press the letter R on your keyboard.
      • This opens the Run dialog box.
      • Copy and paste the below text inside the text-field:
        • "%userprofile%\desktop\ComboFix" /uninstall
      • Now press ENTER
      • ComboFix will extract its files one last time and you should receive a notification that ComboFix has been uninstalled shortly after.
    • You can re-enable your Disk Emulation software at this time via DeFogger.
    • If we had you create or download a registry patch or "fix" script, these can be deleted at this time.
    • Go into the C:\MGtools folder and run the MGclean.bat file to remove additional traces of our tools.
    • Now we will toggle System Restore to remove any infected system restore points.
    • Lastly, here is a guide to protect you from future infections: How to Protect yourself from malware!
    • Be safe :)
