I have just tried to download Google Earth but get a message that I need to change my settings to 32-bit true color. The problem is I have only 24-bit true colour showing. Do I need to replace something or can I download . I am running 2000P. I am what you would call basically computer Illiterate.

What video card are you using?

Most MODERN video cards can display 32bit colour (color).

Simply right click on the desktop, and select properties, now, select the "Settings" Tab.

Under "Color Quality" box, can you change the setting there to a higher setting?

If not, then try downloading newer drivers. (though, this isn't always full proof, pending on video ram)......

defenate upgrade, you need to get at least a PCI videocard (not PCI-E) for 50$ or so.

Way back then, I had an ATI RAGE 8mb AGP, didn't give me any options for 32bit (even with updates); so im just going by experience.

Try updating the drivers......and its the onboard video right ??? If so see if you can give the video card more memory in the bios settup .. prolly ~ 16MB whould be fine for non3D apps......

Look for a setting in your BIOS ( the settup you can enter when your system first boots normaly DEL gets you in ) thare should be a setting thare whare you can change the video ram size ( assuming your using onboard vidoe that is sharing system ram )..........

Some older cards just don't support 32-bit colour.

It's not really 32-bit anyway - it doesn't display any more colours than 24-bit mode, it's just that the video memory is organised differently which can sometimes speed up applications. No good software should really need 32-bit over 24-bit, but sometimes programmers get lazy...
