4:3 vs. 16:9

I notice recently more and more internet sites that are wider than my old CRT display, and I must scroll horizontally to see it all.
If I will switch to a "wide" 16:9 LCD display, will I see the whole site without the need to scroll?
If on the old monitor I see a XL sheet, say with 12 columns, will I see more columns on the wide display?
I can solve the problem by increasing the resolution, but this is definitely not convinient.

4.3 is the standard television screen dimensions and 16.9 is for wide screen. If you can switch to 16.9 you will see everything that is formatted.

 

actually, isn't a 17" 1440x900 widescreen 16:10?

just curious.

(btw, new lcd monitors are getting cheaper. a new 19" runs about $135 on www.newegg.com)

Widescreen in relations to television is 16.9. This is the formatted parameters used when making movies to fit a widscreen television. It's that small wide ribbon they call widescreen. I don't like it, but when I do formatting for DVD's in widscreen I use the 16.9 format, otherwise the pictures and people come out short and squatty in widscreen. It also cuts out part of the pictures, movie, and information.
