Yeah, we're getting the 512MB Thumbdrives for about $20.00 (AUD), too. 'Prolly because the 2 GB ones are out (have been for a while), and the 1GB drive prices are tumbling, a.t.m.

I got a 2GB jump drive for $89.99 from Buy.com a few months ago, it was a one day sale thing. I took advantage! :D

Where can you get flash memory drives for $20 in Aus?

Last time I looked a couple of months ago, the Lexar 512MB drive was a LOT more than that.

I'm in W.A. Computers is what I do for a living, so I know something about it. The 128MB thumbdrves are even cheaper (about $15(AUD)).

Many retail outlets, (over here, anyway), are trying to flog off the smaller thumbdrives cheap. It's like the <120GB H.D.D.'s. They know its old tech already, hence the price drop. It's a very competitive business, and the prices have taken a tumble (like about nearly half), in the last few months, for the smaller drives. Not surprising, considering the new gear coming in. Depends a LOT where you go, as far as prices and range are concerned.

And yep, Eastern States prices are generally more expensive with comp. parts, like most things. One reason why we chose to live here, after experiencing Sydney and Melbourne, amongst other places.

I understand the mechanics behind it, and I know Sydney is more expensive, but even online I can't find it for that price from any Australian site.

If you know one, let me know as I'm interested in buying one.

Can you buy from Newegg or Buy.com and get the US prices? I'm not familiar with international orders and other currencies as in ordering online so I'm not sure how Newegg and Buy.com handles this.

    Don't know BJ, never tried.

I would prefer an Aussie site, and as Phantom says he they can be bought for about $20 here, I'd love to know where?

I've never seen them anywhere near that price, either an Aussie online site, or in store.

BTW ACE, if I didn't have enough money to buy them all, I would have hidden them in the store and came back later with the cash. :)

That's about AUS$45 plus shipping, assuming they would even ship this far.

Thanks anyway, but I can get it for roughly that here.

It's still a far cry from $20 as suggested.

That's when I ask for the manager, and make up a story like one of the employees promised you that there would be some for you today. :D

Cheapest I can find is about AUS$50 for a brand name 512MB drive.

I doubt they are AUS$20 here, you got a good deal ACE.

I checked today. 16.88 is the price for their Lexar 128mb drives. The 512 ones are 37 bucks.

Nice catch, they didnt misprint em here though :(

    Yeah, thought so.

    Thanks for the confirmation.

So much for them being easily available for AUS$20 here!

I get my Flash drives and the U.S.B. mini-H.D. drives, ex-tax (saves 27%), from Astone, Taiwan, direct.

Gets a lot cheaper when in 20 units, or more (least ways, that's the deal we have with them). Reason - We usually use the flash drives and mini-drives as part of a 'freebie' package', when a customer buys a system, or otherwise spends a fair bit of cash. Doesn't cost us much, and good for customer relations, and all.

Actually, I said " Depends a LOT where you go, as far as prices and range are concerned." Which it does, (as much as 50-100%). Not "Easily Available" Admittedly, that was a pretty low price that didn't last very long. Guess you’ll have to wait a bit for any price reduction flow on in general.

Most of the stores and websites are still flogging much more bulky drives at a lot higher cost. Prices aside, I prefer the Astone’s for flash drives, since the only measure 48.716.7X7.3mm, and weigh approx. 10g, as opposed to some other makes, many times that physical size, and same memory size.

Well, with all due respect, its apples to oranges. Buying bulk, and buying wholesale aren't the same thing as saying, you can get them for xx low price.

YOU can yes, but the masses, no. Your previous post said nothing of bulk or wholesale, which isn't there or readily available to joe public.

It would be like me saying, yeah we can get G35 coupes over here for 15,000(US) now. What I didn't mention, is I am a car dealer, bought them in bulk, and at a wholesale price. Everyone else gets to pay 30k.

Not that it matters. Ace took advantage of a misprint, not a sale or every day price. I remember when Walmart had mispriced their 1gb jump drives to 30 bucks. Did I buy one? I started to, then thought, I'll pick it up later.

    Then they fixed the price.

    Doh!

You beat me to it Adrynalyne, couldn't agree more.

He originally said retail outlets, not buying bulk.

I'm sure if I contacted Lexar's distributor here and offered to buy a million units I could get them even cheaper again.

Great for me, but irrelevant and misleading for everyone else.

Yeah, I guess it was a little ambiguous, not to worry.
I was away from forum for a while, or I would have clarified it earlier.

I was going to offer to send one at cost price. Never mind, now.
