    Hey guys,

I am a bit stumped here. I have a 580gtx, was working fine no issues at all. The other day something strange happened and some lines started appearing across the screen. Reboot and went away. Now when I boot up the machine I eventually get them, and if I reboot they remain through the bios, startup, windows startup and into windows. Will progressively get worse till there is nothing but grey on the screen (the lines cover the screen)

I am thinking its a heat issue? I guessing anyway. I have tried 270.(iforget) and rolled back to 266.(iforget) drivers. I have swapped the power cables. tested the monitor.

From a cold start I am able to get it working for a while, then I guess once it warms up thats where I am having issues. Fan is spinning so it should be getting cooled. Which is strange. The computer has been off for a while and now its happily working away now as I post this. Seems once it gets stressed, ie games etc. The issue comes back hence why I think it might be heat??

Its strange since its fairly new. Nov 2010.

Any thoughts of ideas I could try before I end up taking it back. Any software or alternative ideas?

Power: 850W Antec TPQ-850W Modular Power
    Mobo: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7
    Card: Zotac GeForce GTX580 PCI-E 2.0

    Cheers

    Welcome to MajorGeeks!

    Are ye overclocking?

I'd probably try to get a replacement card from whomever ye bought it from. If you are having issues in bios, then yeah, ye have a problem.

Haven't overclocked the card nor CPU.
I left it off for quite a while and appeared to have gone away. From what I gather, the only time I see it during boot at the mem testing page or sata discovery etc, is when it first appeared within Windows and not prior.

So last night after it had been running ok it started to screen flicker. ie a line across the screen followed by a bit of flickering.

I am starting to lean towards a heat issue. If the card itself was overheating, the problems would follow the card back into boot etc since the card itself would be causing issues at this stage. If this makes sense.

Also what I did last night. Completely uninstalled the card / drivers / 3d vision / any other nvidia software.

Booted and had windows discover the card, installed latest drivers.
Worked fine for about 30mins then screen flicker came back. Which is much better then the lines eventually covering the screen but still shows there is an issue.

Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions that come to mind?

Monitor the heat using Afterburner to see if that's the issue and up the fan speed to see if that helps. Otherwise, I'd RMA the card.
