6GB RAM Which OS Should/Could i use?

Hi there,

Ive got 6GB RAM to use, but unfortunatly i have Windows XP 32bit..

I have these legit Serial keys:

Windows Sever 2003

Windows Sever 2008 x86

Windows Vista Buisness 32bit OEM

Windows XP Professional 32Bit OEM

Ive been told..

Your product key from DreamSpark should work for the x86 and x64 trial versions of Windows 2008 Standard and Windows 2008 Enterprise; it did for me

However i want to try to remain on windows xp professional, will the 32 bit serial work on the 64 bit? and will that support 6GB?

and would the vista 32 serial work on 64 bit?

any recommendations?

yep im doing a degree in computing, funnily enough. but dont know much about 32/64 bit support thx

Hi

If using 6GB of ram then option to actually use that ram past around 3GB-ish is to go with x64 OS, be it XP x64, Vista or Server 2008.

But if your licence for x86 Server 2008 is the Standard version then it only in 32bit sees 4GB. Some info on versions here.

No on serial, but if running XP x64 then it will see 6GB.

and yes the 32bit Vista key will work on Vista 64bit (doesnt work with XP x64) if you get the 64bit media as its not included with any version of Vista unless its Ultimate, here at near bottom of page is option to get the 64bit media unless you have it already (may need a call to MSFT activation if your 32bit is already in use to get them to swap it over) but this is like for like so you go from Business 32 to Business 64, and not Business 32 to Ultimate 64.
