If all goes well me and my brother are going to be biking from Parkersburg, WV to Charleston, WV. Assuming we can find a place to stay the night we will be going some time next week. We just got back from Marietta, OH. The 24 mile round trip took us about an hour and a half. Comments? Pointers? Advice?

Padded bike shorts and a Camelback water system. Plus tubes and tools. And beer... Lots of cold beer when you stop for the day.

Sounds like fun. If I ever get contact lens again I plan on biking again. We have a killer off road course 20 miles or so away. Wow, I found a link to the course. http://www.trifuel.com/news/2008/03/22/xterra-news They did make one error, there are 'gators within less than 200 miles... But I doubt there is anything other than snakes in the pond they call a lake!

If you read the article, it mentions Ned Overend. Nice guy, I met him on the trail a couple of days before the Xterra race. His thoughts on a nice Louisiana summer day: "There is more water in the air than on the ground!"

Oh well, sorry if I started rambling again. :-D

Have fun and be safe ACE, sounds like a good trip.

Pointers would be in taking the following:

    Mobile phone and the charger
Plenty of water, energy drinks and food
    ID and money/cards
    sunglasses, sunscreen and safety equip
Tools to fix minor bike issues
Map ( worth making notes on places on your intended route to stay, eat, get supplies and cash machines and mark them on map before going )

First aid kit, they have these nice light and compact ones for bikers. Good for road rash and make sure there's some stuff for stings. Forget the beer, well maybe one or two or else you'll be suffering on the way back!:-D Make sure your brake cables are not frayed nor your gear cables. Other than that, have a great time!

BTW, what kind of bikes will you be using?

jst went for a 40 miler sunday morning- as said make sure you drink lots of water. Gatorade and Bananas replace electolytes you loose sweating and will keep you from cramping. Carry an extra tube and a small airpump or co2 shooter.

Very cool! have fun on the ride, my father actually just started getting into biking within the last 5 years so he's been doing the same things. I've been out with him a few times and it's great excersize.

Sounds like fun!! The wife and I are wanting to get back into biking, but we've been waiting for the baby to get old enough and gotta save for the baby seat/trailer...whatever you want to call it.

lol... if this isn't right up my alley, i have no idea what would be. As I do medical coverage for a couple of multi day bike rides, I will say that everyone coverd the bases really well.

Water/snacks, extra tubes, a patch kit, pump or CO2 filler, ID (please DON'T leave it home), a 20 in cash for emergencies and a credit card for big emergencies, sunblock, appropriate clothing and a cell phone for emergencies.

That should cover a ride by yourselves. Obviously, be careful and make sure of your route before hand (in case of construction, accidents etc.)

If you want, there is a website called www.mapmyride.com that has tons and tons of rides mapped out and logged for searching, and you can also make your own route maps as well. Handy tool to have for riders.

    Have a blast!!

Well I rode to Athens Ohio and back, about 100 Miles round trip. Damn near killed me. I don't think I'm ready for a round trip to Charleston and back. Id need a few days to recover while I'm there. So it looks like the trip to Charleston is off, at least for now.

I highly modded version of this bike. Maxxis hookworms, 185mm front disk, better derailleurs beefier crank, stronger rims. If I could find my camera Id post a pic of it, but this is the closest I could find via google image search. Basically the only thing stock is the frame itself I made it for aggressive road riding. Mostly for cornering and handling performance not just straight line speed. It seems the cheaper bike are some how more fun. :-D
