The Internet is well on its way to becoming one vast bot net, a survey by AOL and the National Cyber Security Alliance suggests.

Researchers interviewed, and examined the computers of, 329 volunteers. They found that nearly all Windows PCs are infected with some form of malware, and that a majority of users are unaware of the simplest security basics, such as the difference between anti-virus software and a firewall, for instance.

Noe, I on friday went to a computer client of mine was running a dell laptop on the net with a adsl connection and no firewall,,after search and destroy, and adaware I ran removed over 1000 bad items !!!!! from data miners, to malware, and spyware,,,installed a firwall,,etc etc,,now all well, Glenn

Yeah i had the same thing with a cousin's computer awhile back. it was like 700 or something. lol. crazy. i wish they would just do a 24 hour broadcasting of how to keep yoru computer free from the stuff on tv or something on like nbc or something or the bbc or something.

Even my parents computer was well stocked with assorted malware and adware, and they don't do much online. They think I'm a genius (thanks MG) because I go over and clean it up for them. Trying to convince my Dad to sign on here.

the title is 80 per cent of home PCs infected

I would be somewhat more worried if 80% of ALL computers were infected. Especially as that would probably include a supercomputer or two
