84 Processes Under Task Manager

    Hi all,
    System:
    Dell inspiron 1300
    windows xp home edition
    1.7 processor
    512mb ram
    80 gig hardrive


    i currently have 84 processes commencing under task manager. I know that this isn't normall. Is there a reason for this. Is there a solution for this to help me reduce the number of processes?

    I would recommend that you follow the instructions in the My Computer Is Slow thread. This will give you good instructions on minimizing the number of background processes.

    Thankyou very much for that, all it was in the end was the programs which were starting when i booted up and which staed in my toolbar. Its now dropped to 40 which is alot better.
