88 to 1 -- who's gonna do any posting?

Freaky - I'm sure this has happened before but not to me. It's not even 10:00 pm (EST) and I'm looking at the Spyware Section and thinking, "wow, there's a lot of people looking at this forum right now."

Then I realized -- I'm the only member, therefore, I'm the only one who can actually post any answers -- yikes

So I came running down here to hide
(actually, I have to sign off and do some ironing -- FUN!)

I know we've had posts before about
How do we get all the "lurkers", um, the "hang-around but don't commit-ers", um, I mean, the readers to join us friendly folk?

Basically, you don't. Either they'll choose to jump in because of what they find, or they'll stay anonymous. Most people don't WANT to join a forum, some are afraid to stick their heads up, some have had bad experiences elsewhere... you name it.

MG gets a lot more lurkers than many other forums do because it's primarily a download site (and a VERY busy one), NOT a forum. So a lot of new folks drop by, and some of them end up looking around in here. And a few decide to stick their heads in.

(shrug) I spent a lot of time simply looking for answers in various forums before I ever joined one. In my first 8 years of internetting, I only joined two.

And I learn so much by READING and READING and READING posts and the problems and of course the SOLUTIONS that are offered. Very educating.

 

I tend to "lurk" alot, but only because I am usually able to find what I need without posting a whole new thread. That goes for most forums. Even on those I have "joined" I only look around to get the answers I need, only posting iffin I cain't find the answer.

 

I should be posting. I used to be the number 2 poster, but these yokels got boring so I stopped posting.. what was it.. 43 a day? So eventually I got trampled by a boot licker, a baked snack, and twinkles the elf.

but damnit, im still the meanest of them all.

Well, I wouldn't say self-confessed. I was just guessing since I definitely don't fit in the other two categories. Goldfish is definitely the snack food, and twinny hasn't really been a factor for quite a while, so ???


BTW, whenever I'm licking somebodies boots, I'm also likely tying the right laces to the left ones to trip them up.

 

like pouring apoxy into their boots so they need to be cut off. but i wouldnt lick them for all the money i owe and then some.

Hey wenchie, some moron posted 240 megabytes of Air America radio shows in one of the Old Time Radio newsgroups, along with a complete station listing. There's a reason they only have 35 affiliates. In most parts of the country people aren't interested. Radio is a profit driven free market, interested in running whatever will generate the best revenue, and this isn't it. Ratings suck. So do the shows.

Take it back from whom? The other half of the people that don't agree with you? If you haven't had your head in a paper bag for the last decade or so, you'd have noticed that the country is pretty evenly divided between
conservative/liberal, or Republican/Democrat, or however you want to slice it. Which means that at best, you've just offended half of those that frequent this forum. At worst, you've offended everybody, since this is NOT the forum for current politics. OTR means Old Time Radio, not Off Topic

Actually - I have thought about that a lot for those of you on the other side of the world...but then I realize there seems to be some Americans that keep odd hours here anyway and post at the most unusual times.

I used to be a lurker.... thinking that no one was ever on the forums to answer questions.... so , I decided to join, just to see.... man it is nice... I can get live help, typically get a question answered within a few hours....

But sadly, I spend more time in the MG arcade and the interesting websites forum.... no more seeking information...just a bunch of time wasting

 

i thought thats what the internet was for? I mean, i've heard rumors of information and global connectivity, but all i see are time-wasters and porn.

 

Ummmm ... I didn't know that ... BTW, I looked in a variety of places, but could not find the "forum rules/policies" ... found the FAQ/etc. but those are just standard vBulletin stuff.

Can you pls point me toward this stuff - last thing we need is the HULK on the loose SMASHING things up without knowing the rules! ;-)

yes like at 3 or 4 am CDT
there are a lot of nights that i am the only member online and there are 50 guests out there..it does only last for a short while, but during that time it is lonely here at MG.
