I hope this is the right place to ask a question like this.. I have two 8800gts 512s in my system with vista... driver- 7.15.11.6925 I had two 7900gtxs in before this and they ran wickedly! why can't I get the same performance out of my new cards? I went to nvidia, xfx (mine), and evga... there doesn't seem to be any help out there. I'm hoping someone answers this because I wanna play!:(

You might want to try the beta drivers if youre not already.

    Hi

Latest drivers may help as pointed out above and quick listing of the two versions are below

    32bit Vista
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/Nvidia_ForceWare_for_Vista_32-Bit_d5504.html

    64bit Vista
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/Nvidia_ForceWare_for_Vista_64-Bit__d5506.html

If you don't know which version your running click Start > right click Computer > choose Properties and under Sytem is listed System Type:

But also there are a few Hotfixes that could help....

yeah :) awesome! thanks for responding. I have the driver installed that you listed, so that's not the problem.. the hot fixes could be though so I'll try those. These cards in sli should play Crysis great shouldn't they? also I tried to play fear with them and believe it or not my 7900gtx cards whomped for fps@average of over 80, and even above 200... I get like 18 with these new ones, what gives? sheesh.

Thanks for your help folks :) though I'm not to sure why beta drivers would work versus the other.. I'm gonna keep trying to see what else might work to get my frames up where they are supposed to be...

    I think it's the Antec case....yup.
...But seriously. Have you uninstalled the driver for the video cards, and made sure you selected "Delete Drivers for this Device?" A lot of times that will work, from my experience.

Likely its that vista is more demanding on video, and slowing your framerates down.

If an update tells you "it doesnt apply to your PC" then you dont need it, I linked to all I knew that may cover compatability and Nvidia GFX cards/Drivers specifically, my PC doesnt need 2 of them.

Sadly Nvidia drivers for Vista are not in the same league as their ones for XP as yet, the beta drivers are the latest and not final WHQL released drivers, the do however tend to add new compatability to SLI and newer games over the previous drivers, so always worth a test.

Lower your AntiAliasing as drivers at present cause a hit in performance with it set high, Nvidia Control Panel > Program Settings and Crysis.exe should be listed, click Antialiasing and set from global to 4x and see if that helps.

I personally have my single 8800gts set to standard default settings and Crysis plays fine.

Thanks Halo.. I apprieciate your getting back to me on the suject and I will take your advice and try the beta drivers.. heh, yeah it would be nice to see a little more hard work going into the drivers for vista.. know anywhere I can advertise a couple gtx7900s? as for the game I've been fiddling quite a bit lol! I got crysis to work. I just thought that I would have a bit better frame rate with sli.. oh well. anyways keep up the good work :)

creativebalance.. hey :) yeah in vista you can chosse in it's own window from a list of your drivers which ones you wanna use so I didn't have to delete them.. but sound advice thanks!

colemanguy, yeah your right I think, but I have four gigs of dual channel shouldn't that be enough to run everything? It's not the fastest but there is a lot of it.. I tried with aero on and off it doesn't seem to make a differance. I think I need to switch to a quad core. and then faster ram not more ram... I could be wrong. anyway thanks for the time! take it easy!
