    I have Win8 in my computer, 1tb HD, i7 Intel, 8G ram, I am

considering upgrading to 8.1, before I do, I thought Id throw

it out to the pros. Bad or good idea, if so is there a

compatibility app that should be downloaded?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jim Durkin

Just bite the bullet and do it. Really unless Microsoft finds more issues, as they did the first three days, when it was released out to the wild, there really are not many more that they could find wrong with it, that cannot be fixed through a patch via Microsoft Update.

I would though place all documents, videos, music, pictures, on a NAS or Cloud drive, before doing the update, in case something does actually go wrong.

To me 8.1 was more of a Service Pack rather than a new OS. The changes were barely noticeable. See here: What's new in Windows 8.1?

It's been out long enough now that we know to avoid it or not and I see no reason to hold off on the update. Be sure to follow brownizs advice just in case.
