any one have any thoughts as to which one i should go for as i am going to build myself a newer machine as my atlon 3000+is getting a bit past it lols
the two sockets are offered at my local store
    AMD ATHLON 64 X2 4600+ SKT AM2 RETAIL

    Price: £186.00

    AMD ATHLON 64 X2 DUAL CORE SKT 939 3800+

    Price: £120.00
al though the price for the x2 939 is abit cheaper is it really the way to go
with the view to upgrading in the near future
if any one can help please dont make it too tech as i am quite new to this only my 4 pc build

I'd go with the AM2 4600 too, more expensive, but more forwards compat.
Like mcadam said though depends on what you want to do with the computer. Also note that if you get the AM2 you'll need to get DDR2 ram instead of DDR...

i agree with websiteforu, but if you do get one keep in mind that they haven't fixed the issue with the ddr2 not running at full speed. it won't be a problem, but don't freak out if your new ram is supposed to be 1066 and it's running at like 9something. I would definetly stick with the AM2 though, because it's the newest socket and won't be outdated like 939 is becoming now. Plus it'll give you better upgradeability later on down the road. Dual Core baby!

i'm not following you on your question. are you talking about a water cooling kit for your computer? what about the two g/cards? is he going to water cool them or are you buying them for that price or what? sorry i'm just confused.

Yeh, check how much it's going to cost in total for the whole water cooling system because it could either work out well for you, or you could be being ripped off.

the water cooling rig is all you need to do the cpu/rad /coolant/tank the lot and the extra is for the other ones which cool the g/cards
soory if my post wasnt to clear
all in for cpu and both g/cards £60 (thats for every thing )

The Aquagate Liquid Cooling System is a revolutionary form of heat management for desktop computing platforms. It relies on a special liquid coolant, in order to draw heat away from the CPU and keep it as cool as possible

If you plan on doing any overclocking, a watercooling kit would be helpful... If not, don't waste your money. Air cooling will be just fine.

The only other reason you would go with water cooling would be to reduce the noise level. That's not a big thing to me though.

I totally agree...Get a good air cooling system, keep your case tidy to increase airflow throughout the case and you should be fine.

coolermaster full water cooling system and both g/cards cooled by the same cooling rig
runs so sweet , cs,source getting 145 fps with just one g/card running have only just put 2nd card in and have not had a chance to run the stress test on the game to see results ,bf2 runs like a film now :)

Just wondering, but is that power supply enough for all of that equipment? I'm running a 939 4400+ 0c'd to 2354 gHz, 7900gt, 2 300 gig IDE drives, a 500 gig SATA drive, x-fi xtreme music, 2 x 1 gigs of corsair xms memory and my power supply is a antec true power 550 and I was worried MINE was approaching the limited of the PS...your has the SLI so i was figuring it must be drawing more power...if you have everest or similar could you post what your getting on your rails under load? thanks and congrats on the sweet new system!
